Thumbs down Is TalkTalk the worst or are there others? TALKTALK!!

18 months ago (August 2007) I signed up to a basic 18 month broadband a telephone package with "free broadband" for a total of £15 a month....not bad

2 weeks later once contract was confirmed they told me that I lived in an "unbundled area" and therefore had to pay for broadband at £15.00/month so total £30.00/month. Oh well chin up.

12 months later a letter arrives saying that I have been on the wrong call plan all along and that the landline prices were going to be changed (we're talking a couple of pennies). Ok I thought no problem.

18 months is now up. I call asking them for the exact date of the contract end so I can throw a party and leave this utterly shambolic, totally pathetic excuse of a business and they told me...

"but you're agreed to another 12 month contract starting from August 2008" (same time as they told me that I was on the wrong price plan, however they did not tell me a new contract would start).

No I did not, why would I have wanted to? They have been terrible and liers from the start.

Is there anything I can do or is this another day in the office?

AOL are a joke as well but I think they are basicly the same network.

If you didn't agree to a new contract and you have not signed anything then tell them to stick it. If they sent you a letter saying the price has been reduced and you didn't action anything, request anything or sign anything then what they are trying to do is scare you into staying.

I believe that they can't actually do that to you - that would be considered a renewal, and NOT a new contract.

Heard the one about being treat like mushrooms? Their call centre staff are just feeding you the, (let's be polite here), manure - so to speak! Obviously, they don't want to lose your business.

If you've been with them for your initial agreed period, call them and ask for, (demand if needs be) a MAC code. Do some research on alternative ISP's and take your business elsewhere.

    Good luck!

Exclamation Re: Is TalkTalk the worst or are there others? TALKTALK!!

Talk Talk are not too bad when everything is setup and running. HOWEVER !! learn some foreign languages prior to contacting customer services, cancelling, changing, billing, and infact the only word ending in "Ing that usually works ok is Surfing !!

NB.. call customer services and tell them they are out of order, you are going to take them to the Telecom Regulator OFCOM, and that you are "LeavING", after you get a MAC code of course !! They should have been in touch with you regarding contracts.

u agreed to the terms and conditions when you signed up im afraid, and that includes a new 12 mont contract when your package is changed.. yes its a poor way of keeping you and a phone call to there complaints dept may get you out of it.

So are you trying to say that if THEY change your contract at any time, you automatically agree to another 12 months contract even though you don't really have any say... Are you really sure about that? because they could effectively lock you into a indefinite contract, Hmmm.

there following there own automated guidelines, its in the small print that a change of contract means a new 18 month contract, so the computer that sent it out automatically extended the contract, hence me saying you need to phone complaints and get it sorted as you will get nowere with the dicks they have on lvl1 support, i rang complaints and got a nice south african guy who could speak full english and we got it resolved there and then.

There was a change in his contract that he agreed to, but unknown to him changes in contract result in a new 12 month contract being formed. Not sure on the legality of that though, sounds weird. You could refuse the contract change which would stop you from infinitely being locked in contract.
