A cool new way to search Flickr :)

By colours in the photo! Pick 10 colours from the palette, and the web app picks a selection of pictures (from 10mil) from the "interesting" photo group.

Give it a try, you'd be surprised at the results you can get. It's interesting trying to predict what's going to come up based on what colour inputs you use - and it's surprisingly intuitive too. I was really disappointed that there wasn't a desktop searching application.

About the Multicolr Search Lab (Flickr Set)

    Q. What is the Multicolr Search Lab, and what does it do?

    A. The Multicolr Search Lab is a part of Idée Labs—Idée’s technology playground for visual search. With the Multicolr Search Lab, you can browse through 10 million of Flickr’s most 'interesting' Creative Commons images, and find ones that share the same colours. Choose up to 10 colours from our palette of 120 different shades.

    Q. How do I perform a multicolr search?

    A. Just select one or more colours from the colour palette and your search will happen automatically. Add more colours, or remove them to update your results. When you first land on the Multicolour Search Lab page, it will be blank. Just pick a colour to get started!

    Q. Can I use the same colour more than once?

    A. Absolutely; using the same colour more than once increases its prominence in your search results.

    Q. Whose images are these?

    A. The 10 million images used by Idée’s Multicolr Search Lab are some of Flickr’s most ‘interesting’ Creative Commons images.

    Q. How do I see an image close up?

    A. To see the original image on Flickr, just click on it (this will open in a new window).
