I have no sympathy for their situation, nor do I wish for people like them to exist in the future. Having looked at their rate of pay per week, I can honesly say that I earn more than that some weeks (not on average though. Just the occasional week here and there when lots of people need musicians.)

Both Carl and Lauren left school at 16 without any qualifications and initially found work.
And then they got 'replaced' by immigrants? Hardly an original complaint..

I can kind of symapathize with them to an extent. However, there are jobs here in he north, you just have to be prepared to take what is available. Then look for another job whilst working as it is easier to get another job if you are working already. Me and my wife left Vodafone and she now works for NPower at Team Valley and I work for O2. It can be done.

We do have a lot of Polish immigrants round this way at present and they are getting the jobs, quite a few of them are bus drivers. This is unfortunately putting a few people out of work. Another thing about round here is that a lot of employers only pay minimum wage for specialist jobs which can be a bit off putting.

There is a link on that story at the min top right, story about a decline in the job market in general. I get the impression that a lot of employers are wanting you university graduates, especially in I.T so they can be paid minimum. Round here so someone my age can't get into the type of work I am qualified to do. Only way to get it would be if me and the family moved south.

Bit of a catch 22 situation really.

They say they had both hoped for a better life than their parents. They believe it is harder for young people now than in previous generations.

From what I know, a job is a job, doesnt have to really be the 'right one', get some experience and keep moving forward I say.
