there you go:

Open a Nationwide account, bung the money in there, withdraw it from a cashpoint in France. Natiowide charge no comission at all so it's usually the cheapest way of doing it.
You should just have time to get the card through the post if you go and do it tomorrow.
I had a look into this a few months ago (this thread, slightly different circumstances though) and came to the conclusion that, as Rave says, a Nationwide account would probably be best. However, I've found that Nationwide are a bit picky about who they give cards to - I applied for a FlexAccount online (it may be quicker to do it in a branch, I don't know) and I was only offered a cash card. I didn't ask for an overdraft or anything but they still wouldn't even give me a debit card, and I don't have a bad credit history or anything like that (I will admit to being a student with no steady income, but I'd still think a debit card would be OK ).
Well worth a try for the good interest rates, and for your purposes a cash card would probably suffice anyway.
Nationwide won't give a debit card until the account has been open 7 months (dunno why).
If you book online I find Travelex do a good rate.
M&S or the Post Office for the best rates on the high street
Actually on the high street i've found that the exchange rate places near the trainstations are very good, be it for £100 or £10,000.

/makes mental note for next time I need £10,000 in cash converted to euros.
I opened a joint account with them last year; both me and my wife both got debit cards. I don't see how they could possibly have a blanket policy of not issuing debit cards for 7months - no one would bank with them. I would certainly have walked away if they told me that.
So yes, other than a NW card I've always used the good'ol PO in the past.

where ever you go it might be worth waiting as this article suggests the pound is about to rebound, but it could also drop further!
