    G20 summit

Not really following this but i am not looking forward to the pointless riots and protests that will happen as i work in the city of london.

i recevied this statement about safety precautions we need to take and our security guard has told us that the police said we cant go out for lunch/smoke breaks that day as we need to lock the doors!

    anyways here is the letter:

    Dear All,
As most of you are aware the G20 summit is taking place on 2nd April at Excel in East London. There are a number of protests planned for around the City but the Police have issued some guidelines advising of some basic safety measures that we should adhere to as there is an expectation that the protests may be more widespread.
The following safety precautions are suggested:
    • Smoking areas outside of the buildings are to be reviewed over the event days, People who take regular smoking breaks should be discouraged from doing so.
    • External visits made by staff should be kept to a minimum, so as to avoid any unnecessary confrontations. Encourage staff to bring in lunch with them in the morning so that they will not have to leave the premises.
    • Unnecessary waste should be cleared from external areas of the properties, where they can be used as throwing objects etc
    • Inform staff to be vigilant at all times, If some thing doesn't look right….report it!
    • Logistics for deliveries should be reviewed and regulated. Only essential items should be delivered, There may be a point over the coming days when deliveries cannot be made so why not cancel them now.
    • Dress down - staff on sites in vulnerable areas have been advised to dress down for the day(s) to avoid being made targets. The point here is that people who dress in suits may be targeted as capitalists.
    • Night time light out - over the protest period buildings should turn off all unnecessary lighting to avoid being targeted by climate protestors.
Anything viewed as out of the ordinary on the days leading up to or over the protest period should be reported to Building Security or the Police.
Site security have been asked to remain extra vigilant during this period.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
    Kind regards

    Re: G20 summit

These things have happened before and nothing ever comes of them.....Why companies feel the need to practically scaremonger, I do not know.

The first year I was working in the City I had people telling me to watch the hand rails in the tube stations as "they may tape/glue razor blades to them" etc.....all a load of

Here is what we were sent, again scaremongering as almost certainly nothing will happen.

'Earth Hour' and marches over the weekend went off fairly quietly. The main points from my note of last Thursday therefore remain:
    • Have your security pass at the ready when approaching our buildings on Wednesday and Thursday - there will be mandatory checks which may cause delays if you do not have it available for inspection
    • On Wednesday, start your commute early and in any event avoid Bank, Liverpool St, Moorgate, Cannon St. and London Bridge stations after 9 a.m. (our canteen will open at 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday)
    • On Wednesday and Thursday Coleman Street should only be used as a last resort – it will not be available as a client venue and you should not plan to base yourself there
    • Expect transport disruption:
o DLR stations at Royal Victoria, Custom House and Prince Regent will be closed on Thursday 2nd April
o Roads / station closures on protest routes and near ExCeL are very likely
    • Given many of us have recently moved offices and floors, familiarise yourself with building safety, shelter and evacuation details
    • Ensure you travel with fully charged mobile, charger + SecurID token

Just saying they need something to make a fuss about or the higher up's might just decide they don't need to spend so much on it.

shaiths at least they sound like they've planned quite well, encoraging people to come in early etc.

We don't wear suites, and are at the wrong end of town to get most of the complaints, but still i'm wearing a hoodie!

Dammned if you do, dammned if you don't
Those are all precautions in case things get out of hand.
Or do you lot think wearing condoms is a waste of time as most of the time, sex doesn't result in STD's or preganacy
I bet you'd all be the first to ask "why weren't they properly prepared" if things get nasty and people get seriously hurt.

Was that through official communications channels or just a bunch of gullible co workers telling you?
