As has been said many times elsewhere they've been in too long - we need a change. Would love to give the lib dems a chance but it's just not a realistic vote. Might as well vote for the monster raving loony party unfortunately.

I'd like to say no, but then people vote in a crazy fashion at times. I wouldn't have thought the Tories would get in in 1992, but they did, despite polls showing a massive labour majority beforehand.

The Lib Dems can't win a General Election, and obviously UKIP, the Greens, etc, can't win.

So... who are you expecting to be PM if Labour don't win, if it's not David Cameron?
A lot of people seem to have a dislike of the Conservative party, whether it's because of bitterness about Thatcher or just that they're traditionally the mainstream right party (whether this is still true or not).

I reckon disillusionment with Labour and Conservatives might give Lib Dem a much better chance in the next election.

I sort of agree. This is the attitude that Lib Dem have to tackle - if everyone stopped thinking voting Liberal was a wasted vote, they would have a chance of getting in.

Yes, but the Tory party are ahead in the polls... so obviously less people have a dislike of them than Labour or the Lib Dems, otherwise, they wouldn't be ahead.

    Simple.

Also, why would them being the mainstream right party be a reason to dislike them? They are not the BNP, so it's hardly a reason in itself, unless you are a miner, a commie, or an 'everything right wing is racist' sort of person.

Anyway, you are not claiming that New Labour are left wing surely? Blair got in to power in '97 by being Mrs Thatcher in a suit - not by crushing Thatcherism. Now he is gone, Labour are gone - they last as long as Brown has before he has to call an election.

I think what you mean is you dislike them, and a lot of your Lib Dem voting friends dislike them.

Nothing wrong with that, of course, but that is not most people, as a glance at the latest Tory and Lib Dem poll numbers will prove to you completely.

I think this forum in general is quite anti Tory and pro Lid Dem, but in the country as a whole the Tory party are far more popular than the Lib Dems.

I reckon disillusionment with Labour and Conservatives might give Lib Dem a much better chance in the next election.
A better chance of what? The Lib Dems will not win the next General Election, that much is sure. If they pushed Labour into second place, that would be their win.

Tzarbo - how can you compare Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher, Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham..

Re: Can Labour Win The Next General Election?

Even though it would be disaster, it may do Britain some good if a totally different party got in, like the BNP. Might get some wake up calls then, and we start looking after British people rather than our tax payers money going to support people who just come over here don't work and feed off the state.

I hate politics. I am sure many people do, which is why they don't bother voting. At least if you vote, you can moan about stuff, if you don't vote, don't bother moaning because you didn't even try. Politics is bad at times on a work scale let alone country wide.

There is not a single situation where it could be good for the BNP to get even a sniff of any kind of power in this country.

How do you feel about British people that don't work and just feed off the state - cause there's way, way more of them doing that than there are immigrants. I'm not talking people who are out of work and need a bit of help - I'm talking people who live off the dole on a permanent basis, and actively shirk work.

It's amazing how many people overlook the obvious problems and push the blame somewhere else. I don't know the exact number of domestic pikeys but I'd sooner steps were taken to address that problem rather than blame immigrants; even if people were coming here to sponge off the welfare system surely that indicates a problem with the system more than anything else? I'll be working on a customer site next week where there's an undercurrent of racism due to the employer out-sourcing a large number of jobs to India. There are a large number of Indian workers on-shore in the UK as well as a larger number working UK hours off-shore. The company / board were the ones that decided to take as much work as possible off shore - surely picketting the board / shareholders would be more appropriate than harbouring / fostering racism?

I feel the same. It makes me sick that Joe Bloggs goes off with a girl has 6 kids and they do sweet nothing. They get a house and everything. Its better for them to be on the dole. But this country isn't helped by the fact it helps others before it own people. What of all the homeless people out there for whatever reason. Shouldn't they get first priority at help and a place to live?

Of course there are genuine situations, these people by all means need help.

Anyway, I feel this could get sidetracked. So I don't think Labour will win, but corruption in our government has reached levels I never thought possible for a developed country. I think its too far to root out now.

I seriously doubt that Labour will win, and I hope that they don't. However, the trouble is nowadays is that it is not about picking the best party, as they are all as bad as each other!, it is a case of trying to choose the lesser of two evils

Re: Can Labour Win The Next General Election?

I'd love to give the Lib Dems a chance, Vince Cable was warning of the finacial crisis we were heading for a few years ago and they wrote him off as being a crazy old fool, I was also glad to see Nick Clegg standing up and asking for a vote on the Gurkha issue.

Having lived through Thatchers rein, and now the unelected Gordon Brown, I'd really like to have a change as many others have already said. I can't see it happening though.

Edit: The results are on 4th June right? Sorry I'm a bit thick when it comes to politics...
