Does it do it pseudo-randomly?
I would have thought the most efficient way would be to send it on a scouting mission round the entire room (would take a while but just as an initial set up). Then once it's saved a log of the place it generates an efficient path around it.
They're quite cool, but from what i hear they're not that amazing at actually cleaning. A good step forward, but not quite something out of Pixar yet!
