Any Sky subscribers record the F1 today?

Hey guys,


Having a small bit of fun with my SkyHD box/Sky and just wonder if you could do me a huuuuge favour, and see if you can play back the F1 if you did record it?

Also, if you've got HD could you state whether you've got the new HD EPG or not?

Reason I asked is because I sat down this evening, beer at the ready to enjoy the F1. Irritatingly, I can't. This is what happens when I try and watch the recording:








So basically, I can't watch something I've recorded. Phoned Sky - oh it is a copyright issue, you'll need to delete the content as you can't watch it. Well, I've asked here and on a couple of other forums, and others have. So why can't I?

That doesn't make any sense. Clearly if you were able to record it, you were able to watch it at the time when it was on. So why wouldn't you be able to watch it later? If there was some kind of copyright issue were you aren't allowed to record it, it should appear when you actually try to record it, not after. I don't see why there would be an issue anyway.

Actually, it doesn't work like that - it only gets decrypted on viewing. The box records the raw program stream to the disk and if it's broadcast encrypted it'll still be encrypted on the disk. This stops you from being able to pull the disk and make perfect mpeg2 copies from it.

You can actually record something you have no ability to view at that time - what you can do with this which is quite neat is spend a few months up to christmas recording movies, and pay for sky movies for just 1 month over the break and watch them all then.

I could do, however I'm currently paying Sky £46/month for the privilege of their Sky+HD service, and so I'd rather watch it on my HD telly than my 23" PC monitor over a ridiculously slow BT internet connection (600m away from the exchange at my parents house, something like 4km in a straight line away in Norwich from the exchange - 2.4mb but shaky )

The other thing, their support was utterly useless - I explained what had happened, what I was trying to watch (nothing like a Pay per view movie etc) and all I got was the scripted answer, no option to be put through to someone who might know the answer.

Sorry Tumble, I've just reread the above and I wasn't meaning to attack the idea you posted, just exasperated that something I'm paying for doesn't do what it is supposed


Ended up watching the recording, which was all there but did have some graphical corruption - so perhaps it is a symptom of the same issue.

Or spend christmas recording and subscribing to movies,
then find none of them play when you unsubscribe
