So the question is, what was the mother doing, letting her son play with a puppy that is one week old anyway.

Damn, that's brought a tear to my eye. I heard the story about a puppy surviving being flushed down the toilet, but I didn't know all this went on to help rescue the poor little pup!The lady was very concerned said Mark she was worried about the puppy and about the cost of the rescue. Mark was able to reassure her that there would not be a charge from Dyno Rod.
ok, now this might upset some people then.
I don't see the point.
We are not short of dogs, the rspca/homes are full of plenty of them.
The money dynorod spent rescuing a puppy, which shouldn't have ever been abused into that situation, and the cost of the fire brigade, which i belive was there for some 2 hours.
Just think how much money that is, lets pretend that it was only £200, i'd imagine its a lot more thou.
Now lets look at that in African Aids Orphen Months......
Saving the puppy still a good idea? I guess it might of cost more to clear it once it became a blockage.

Well, if you have to objectify everything, I'd say that it's good PR. They were in a seemingly unique position where they can directly help a puppy and they did it. I say good on them - it's not like the money would've likely gone to an African Orphan charity otherwise.
you see its the fact that the puppy buys more PR i find odd.
I'm not questioning the effectiveness of their decision, right down to putting on youtube, slick.
Just the fact that as a public, it made the And Finally sections of TV news, and towards the front of papers, where as if they had done something more useful, it would of gotten them ****.

I take it you've never had a pet then and cared for it enough to do anything to help it if it's in pain, suffering, lost etc...
TBH, I'm quite shocked at this reply. Yes, there is obviously more important things in this world like children suffering in Africa and all that, but we do our bit for them through ways of charity.
In this day and age of news being plastered with deaths, murderers, rapists, con men ripping off little old ladies, school kids carrying knives, war, terrorism... all that negativity on a daily basis, it's for once a real PLEASURE to read about someone rescuing a puppy out of the kindness of his heart. Of course, it turned in to a bit of positive PR for Dyno Rod, but when their staff do nice things like that, they deserve it.
Anyway, it's not as if they directly spent a couple of hundred quid to rescue a puppy, I imagine the only cost would've been his hourly rate and he was obviously happy to not get paid for the benefit of saving a puppies life.
Emergency services too!
No i just find it odd, how people who don't tell the chuggers "i can't be bothered" will go all gooey for stuff like this. I have no problem with the hypocrosy, i may sound harsh, but its so damn obvious to me we don't care about so many people in this world, its just something i'm still struggeling directly to live with.
Now you say how i must of never owned pets. I have, i've also seen the difference an animal made to my parents once both their kids had moved out.
Have you never helped a human? Aids orphens aren't all cute n fluffy wuffy its true. I just found it so amazing the lengths we will go to, for a fricken puppy, when compared to the easy lengths we won't go to for people.

Gotta agree with this, the cost to Dyno-Rod/British Gas is tiny for the amount of good PR they'll get off it. It'll probably save their marketing department a few quid!
And so long as the fire brigade weren't actually needed anywhere else at the time, it's no worse a use of their time than sitting around in a fire station for a couple of hours.
