Re: So my estate agent really has been terrible... (snotty letter time)

SammEl, yeah maybe... but tbh, I couldn't give a monkey's what they think of me.

It's a vent, a cathartic exercise to clear the pent up anger at how useless idiots sit on the their bums, do nothing proactive and I end up suffering.

Had Burchell Edwards marketed my house properly, it would've sold in the the post-crash cash buyer boom... and I would've been able to move to a house down here that normally would've been well out of my price range.

As it is, the market has stabilised, more houses have come on the market as things are shifting and now, as there's more competition, my house price has to drop as those with more equity can afford to drop their price to get the sale.

There was a four month (ish) window where cash buyers were snapping up houses and down south previously in excess of £300K houses were going for £150 to £200K... perfect for the buyers market.

That's all changed, the cheaper houses have gone, the market down south is getting back to how it was with prices creeping up and those expensive houses at bargain prices either all sold or the prices have hiked back up... so my options are now much more limited.

Given all of that, I see no reason at all why I shouldn't take my anger out on their sales director who, rather comically, has given me just as terrible service as his god-awful staff.

Anyhoo, I don't expect a reply from them and tbh, I don't care either way. My piece is said, twice now, and that's that.

Of course, if someone having a bit of fun and getting his ire off his chest doesn't sit well with you, I'll post these in my blog and you'll know you can avoid it.

Re: So my estate agent really has been terrible... (snotty letter time)

The best thing Nick did was to name and shame them here. It's great.

Too often, when we get bad service like this, we don't tell people the name or the company because we don't want to be seen as the bad guy.

This isn't good because then people don't have information and just keep using them despite the very bad service.

So I say name and shame them. Weed these jokers out of the market.

I am going to send this thread to Michael to show how crap his service is.

EDIT - I have just sent it. All the best to his business of lies.

Read the contract carefully and get rid of them if possible.

The way some national chains are setup, it's all 'talk a good game to get the customer to sign on' but then move onto the next one. Avoid national chains.

I was reading somewhere most estate agents (on average) if they cannot sell your house within 3 months they are not going to sell it. This was talking about US market, but it got questioning the UK one too. I just hope you got a good deal with them.

How on earth did you find this thread?! Search function or something?

Whilst we're on the topic though, I assume nothing ever came of this from the other end?

House prices is whats wrong with the uk economy today and our deficit, debt house prices have always pushed the economy down, and 2nd plus home owners should be tax 70%.
House prices have made this country uncompetitive, house prices dont produce something of value, who do i blame for our debt greedy landowners, MPs and banks, not the unemployed.

I more with schmunk, we have got to a point where the base rate is so far off from peoples idea of a risk free rate, and miles from LIBOR.

How many mortgage firms are actually offering close to 0.5% they simply can't borrow that. When you look at the history of 6 month LIBOR it is still strongly linked.

So why attack people who own two homes with punative tax? Afterall what is wrong with me deciding to get a cheap little flat down in cornwall, rather than spend it all on cigs, fags and fosters? There is a big demand for rental property in certain parts there, so a need.

Most of the property problem comes from NIMBYs and those who oppose new buildings, we're an expanding population which lives on its own at a younger and younger age (it was a struggle for me to live with my parents until 18, and the summer I spend there when I was 20 made me feel like a right looser!). We simply have a shortage of housing that people want to live in.

Obviously if you go up north to some place no one wants to live ever there are streets of vacent houses.

As you say cheap little flat in cornwell would mean if your a buyer from a city you wages would be higher than local wages and price a local out. i would inpose 70% tax on more than one property, i would get rid of council tax and introduce a 2%-7% ( depending on average wage and local house prices )tax on the value of the home paid for by landlord not renter.

Most houses need some form of upkeep. From decorations to renovations, over time all properties need money spent or invested on them (depending on your perspective). This creates a demand for goods and services which help fuel the economy. The house itself may not produce anything of immediate value but its existence certainly does. In fact, the amount spent on a house over its useful lifespan is likely to be significant.

So you advocate a one house policy? People will always find ways around it. Only allowed one house? Fine, if you’re rich you can simply buy out your neighbours and make your “one” house larger. Who wouldn’t sell if someone was offering them well over market rate for their property?

Maybe you’d prefer a socialist government?

Your proposal would likely stifle the economy more than anything else. Unless every country in the world adopted the same approach (not likely in our lifetime), UK residents with spare money would simply invest and/or move elsewhere. How is that good for the local economy?
