    Electrical Issue

Ok so we recently had our house rewired including the addition of a RCD (Residual-current device) and every since i have been greeted with a problem that is becoming more regular.

So basically in my bedroom i only have 2 plug sockets and i have a hd tv, ps3, xbox 360 and few other small electrical appliances plugged into extensions, whenever the PS3 of 360 have been on for a long ammount of time (seems to be only after a while) when i switch the extension off at the wall switch BANG the RCD trips as intended.... but its rather troublesome as this then blows my PC everytime my family play consoles, so anyone have any ideas why it is doing this or solutions?

    Thanks

    Re: Electrical Issue

Is it the main RCCB or the MCB protecting just that ring?

Does the extension socket have any filters or surge protection in it? The other possibility is that with a lot of those small SMPSUs plugged in, switching them all off at once can cause a spike which can cause the RCCB to trip. (I get the same problem at home on one lighting cct which has a number of inductive ballasts on it). Not a lot you can do, just switch off the individual power supplies individually, rather than all at once at the wall socket.

Yup, i've had this happen before now, a housemate had this very dodgy old HiFi amp, whenever it was switched off it spiked.

I balanced it out with an old phaser printer that used to trip the earth leakage!
