    Update on my house build

Now some of you guys may remember i'm planning on building a new house and i'd thought i'd give you a quick update on how it's going.

Unfortunately I haven’t got anything worthwhile let of taking pictures but when I do I’ll update them.

In the whole we’ve got a 2 acre plot of land north of Salisbury down a small private lane, (Should be fun for when we try and get trucks down ) that seems to be a really nice area. The geek inside me is happy that the exchange is Be LLU but the normal me is even happier about the views.

As for the building we’ve got planning permission now for a 4/5 bedroom house with a double garage built in which is made using lots of environmentally sustainable products (the guy who leave next to the plot reckons that the council would have given it planning permission if it wasn’t due to that so thanks guys ).
Although it’s technically a 5 bed house, the room above the garage is going to become my study/home cinema/games room and it’s planning to be air conditioned. We’ve got a master bedroom with a walk in closet for the wife (only way to get my games room ) and a kitchen with a breakfast bar. I personally couldn’t care less about the bar but yet again I need my room.

We’ve got a builder who after talking to a couple of friends are meant to be excellent and were hoping to have the house ready to move in to by May.

    I can't wait.

Have you given Grand Designs a call? I'll bet poor old Kevin McCloud is desperate for something to film with the recession going on...

I'll be more than welcome to keep you update.

So far the most stressful part was once we had bought the plot of land and submitted the planning application form, the waiting that followed that.

Not knowing whether it was going through and having to re think the house and maybe even land plot if it didn't.

I said the house was built out of sustainble products. I never said i would be careful with the power

Although I am careful with my power but just don't include my work for my carbon emissions.

Good luck with this mate! We renovated an end of terrace victorian house and that was bad enough (actually, when I say renovated I mean ripped most of it down- we ended up with 3 1/2 walls and no ceilings or roof at one point)! It is worth doing though when you can have exactly the house you want. And don't knock the breakfast bar- ours allows me to recreate Saturday Kitchen when cooking!
    Not around too often!

Re: Update on my house build

I'm currently helping a mate clear out and strip down an old storehouse in Lanark, right on the main street. Lanark is an old market town, and as such the buildings around the main street are all a couple of hundred years old, so this is messy messy and frustrating work.

The upside of it, it will be featured on Homes Under The Hammer, and although a final decision has yet to be made on what happens to the property, its looking like a townhouse, but it has got me interested in all sorts of projects like this, even though i am only there for the grunt work.

Photos would be great Hands, would love to see how it progresses.
