    Shopping for "larger" clothes

    I'm having a bit of a problem.

I need to find a retailer that sells "clothes for the larger man" if you like, and am finding it hard to locate one near me.

I know I can order stuff online, but at the moment I can only pay in cash, which means a visit to a shop. I've been looking on Google for a while now and have come up with nothing near the London area (except high priced stores in central London).

Does anyone know of any such retailers near the London area, or preferably South West London? I don't mind driving for a bit to get somewhere, but need to get somewhere soon.

    Hi Allen

I am a larger gentleman to, and i find Burton offer upto XXXL on specific items, but its most often you will find XXL in stock in shirts that fit well, the jumpers seem to be slimmer fit, and the ones i have purchased recently seem to shrink.

You can also try Debenhams if you have one near you, again they do sizes upto XXXL and seem to have much more stock online, i don't know about how much they will have instore.

If your an older gentleman you can also try Marks and Spencers who have various items upto Big & Tall sizing.

Not forgetting Asda (George) upto XXXL if thats your thing.

Various other brands are also good depending on what you need, i found Nike to be great, as well as Timberland and Ecko items all have good fitments, and Berghaus do various products in XXL and XXXL including Fleeces and Jackets.

    Hope this helps.

I have used M&S before (despite not being an older gentleman lol ), but their Big & Tall range is exclusive to online purchases.

Thanks for the other tips though, I will check out Debenhams. I didn't realise they offered clothing up to those sizes which should be fine for me.

However with M&S can't you convert your money into gift vouchers and use those online?

    Re: Shopping for "larger" clothes

Yosh pretty much nails it, I know of a couple of stores in Brum but nothing that far south unfortunately

Burtons is definitely as good a place to start as any though, used to get a lot of gear for work there before I lost weight. Animal t-shirts/jumpers are worth a look too, they only go up to XXL but they're deceptively roomy

I lost a lot of weight to recently and its still slowly falling off, that is by far the best option when your Big and Tall together

I will also look at Animal, i have some old tops that still fit but some of the newer stuff i tried didn't, which was the same for Quiksilver and Billabong items.

Yup, know the feeling dude, it's been a slow slow process for me as well

Dunno if the Animal stuff I stumbled on in Freespirit was a fluke or what but I swear some of it's sized to fit yanks as it all just seems a bit baggier than XXL stuff has any right to be, comfortable stuff though

    we talking tall or fat?

when it comes to tall most of the designer people do longer sizes and thankfully plenty of places like austin reed/aqua have got sales on right now, on both casual and everyday smart stuff.

If its obesity fitting stuff, there are places like High and Mighty which can accommodate piratically all combinations.

What fat man tricorn hats, wooden legs, parrots and stripey tops? If so I am there.

As a fat chap I just cling on to whatever clothes fit me. I am hugely allergic to clothes shopping and generally perform smash and grab raids in m&s, fat face and a few others (including timberland- it's all septic sized!).

    Re: Shopping for "larger" clothes

I stronngly recommend both High & Mighty (they must *surely* have at least one shop in london?) and Cotton Traders (who may or may not have an "outlet" somewhere down south).

    Hang on...

OK, High and Mighty have three London stores: you can check these and other locations at their online store locator. Cotton traders have none in central London but have a few outlets round the outskirts: and they also have an online store locator. Both of them do clothes that are way too big for me, and I'm 6' 2" and have been as much as 18st in the past!!!

High and Mighty have become overly expensive as time has passed on.

    As per the OP's comment

(except high priced stores in central London).
I would assume he has visited them already.

Fair enough - they always used to be quite reasonable, but I've not been in for a few years now...

I haven't visited them, I checked their pricing online. Central London is a pain to go to just for one shop, especially when they're quite high priced.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for their help. I surprisingly found everything I needed in one shop which I wouldn't expect to sell anything in my size... Sports Direct! There was one just down the road from me and I went there looking for a jumper and found jeans and t-shirts there too! Not expensive either.

    Very happy chappy.

    Re: Shopping for "larger" clothes

ive always had issues with retail stores not offering sized clothing ...and updated fashion clothing for my size, and it gets rather humiliating when everybody else can just pick it off the rack and wear.
