    Learning another language

Currently i'm trying to learn Swedish but through tutorials on the net and speaking to a few swedish / danish people that i regularly chat to.

Does anyone know of any good books to learn swedish or where to get them from? It's very difficult since they seperate so many words!

Still, it's a really cool language to learn

    Any pointers?

You cant beat immersion to learn a language.

I did french very well and living basically on it meant that it's a good language to learn. I just prefer to learn something different. I s'pose amazon is the best place to get a book on it?

it's gotta be one of the most useless languages tho, most swedish people speak better english than we do!

I did spanish and french at school. I far preferred spanish. Wish we'd been able to do it for more than a year :/

    Talar du svenska? Kul!

Jag vill bo och arbeta i Sverige, min flickvän bo nära Stockholm (och hon vill inte bo i England ).

I'll try to remember to check on this thread when I get home to get the titles of the books and CDs I have, plus a few websites for grammar and research.
Oh, and there's the Swedish national radio broadcasts over the Internet too.

    Aha! Remembered the thread eventually

Let's see, here's my list of reading/watching material:
[book] Teach Yourself Swedish - Vera Croghan
    ISBN 0-340-86722-1

[multimedia CD (Windows)] Learn Swedish - EuroTalk Interactive (1 beginner, 1 advanced)

[Windows DVD] Lek och lär - Skolstart (5-7 år)

[book with audio CD] Nalle Puh och den blåsiga dagen

[DVD] Fem myror är fler än fyra elefanter

It may seem strange that, at nearly 29, I have a collection of kids' learning tools, but it's a great way to listen to the "proper" pronunciation of the language at a reasonable pace

    URLs:

    Sveriges Radio

    Online Swedish/English Dictionary

    Swedish Verb Conjugation

V-Sweden (Virtual Countries site - nice community, forums aplenty)

    Expressen (news) site

I don't know about you, but the trickiest bits I find are the reverse grammar and pronunciation - I often sit with the Swedish radio playing in the background to hear how to get the "melody" of the speech.
