    Re: Miley Cyrus

haha, I can play Blackened on Drums and Guitar, so I've got 7/4 down a lil' bit already

Not so big on the Jazz though, might be worth a listen!

I'd love to slap a bass across Miley Cyrus' face.

    Re: Miley Cyrus

ok, i get she is just another product of a Megacorporation, singing meaningless crap in exactly the same way as every other similar "product" out there, but does that mean she really deserves to be hit in the face with a fish?

I would watch it on Youtube tho....

    Re: Miley Cyrus

I know we all have the genres and artists we love to hate and I always do try to keep an open mind about new styles of music but I absolutely cannot stand talentless mega-marketted pieces of turd. Now I haven't really listened to Ms Cyrus's music at all so I'm really in no position comment about her but have you guys heard Pixie Lott? Her music is bland, her lyrics are just mediocre drivel and her videos are completely devoid of any inspiration or ingenuity. When I heard that Pixie Lott was heralded as one of the 'stand out' upcoming acts I was vaguely interested in finding out what the fuss was about what I found made me want to puke. I just had to get that out...

However there is something else that irks me too and that is people actually enjoying the music of the likes of Pixie Lott and then go on to give out about true artists like, say, Lady Gaga - ironically calling her a mass-marketted corporate money making machine. What annoys me about these hypocrits is that Lady Gaga is a real artist who worked for years as a song-writer for the likes of Britney Spears, Rihanna, Pussy Cat Dolls etc. She obviously knows the formula to make a hit pop record and she can play the media game to perfection. Her lyrics are interesting and generally paint quite a unique story (take her new single Bad Romance for example) while some of her compositions are very well thought out. She isn't afraid to take risks and that has made her very successful. All that just screams of extreme talent.

I'm just using Lady Gaga as an example here in contrast to Pixie Lott who obviously is a puppet being pulled along by her corporate beneficiaries and who market her as a 'cute' young upcoming artist yet some people just can't see past the facade that she really is just an empty shell and then have the nerve to go on to call Lady Gaga 'talentless'. Of course I could use Kanye West, another great talent of our times, as another example of someone a lot of people love to hate without actually sitting down and listening to what he has to offer in his music.

And sometimes it isn't the obvious artists that are the ones being pulled by strings. The Ting Tings too have made some amazingly minimalistic tunes but every beat is carefully worked out to perfection to achieve their style but a lot of people like to dismiss them just because they're music seems to be just trying to appeal to the masses. A lot of my friends who are really serious about their music look up to the Ting Tings for what they have managed to do and they admire the polish their songs achieve despite being very simple. Would it surprise you to hear that one of these people is a man in his early 50s who writes and produces music in his spare time. Miley Cyrus may well turn out to be a very talented musician with varied songs and well thought-out lyrics so I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet but I really wanted to get that rant outta my head. Maybe it's time for me to listen to some of her songs...
