Question Anyone know if Fast chargers are bad for rechargeable batteries..

    Compared to slow chargers?

Do the rechargeable batteries die faster or not charge properly?

I was thinking of getting this http://www.batterylogic.co.uk/Uniros...r-u0142250.asp

but someone started preaching that fast chargers are bad. So I was wondering if anyone could clear this up for me.

    Thanks.

N.B. That charger over this - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...EENERGIZER.htm as I can get 2100mAH batteries with the former.

I had a 15min fats charger that killed my nimhs the first time I used it, had to use pliers to get the batts out and left them outside to cool down. I now use

If you looking for info in batts and chargers have a sniff around

According to the sources I've found (probably photography forums) back when I was reading up on chargers/rechargeable batteries, yes fast chargers can reduce the batteries lifespan.

If they get hot during fast charging, then yes the heat damages them.

I've got a 1 hour charger that makes high capacity NiMHs too hot to hold initially, doesn't worry me too much as any degradation is still a long way off, but would think twice before putting them in a 15 min charger

yeah, fast charge can knacker virtually any battery, and it doesn't need to be done a lot either.

Heat is the main enemy, as stated, but it's also an issue of the quality of the regulation of the charger. Cheap fast chargers scare the bejeses out of me tbh

Re: Anyone know if Fast chargers are bad for rechargeable batteries..

Standard rule of thumb is that charging at more than 1C is bad for cells.

1C = charge to capacity in one hour.

Biggest problem is those chargers that don't auto shut-off when the battery is charged.
Continuous charging is only recommended at 1/10C (i.e. 10 hours to capacity).
