Halifax have been good to me, but iv got a bit of money with them so I have some leverage there.
Good as gold, they looked after everything I expected and more
Not bad, but a few things were not quite right/slowly sorted etc
Average. They're a Bank, what do you expect?
Not great, had some issues, and didn't sort properly
Royally screwed me, I hate them and want to kill them, dead in the face

Nearly all bank related communication this year had to do with (credit card) fraud prevention. RBS did very well picking up a fraudulent transaction on a card that was (legitimately) only used once before it happened.
Recently (just after New Year), Smile and RBS both blocked my card because I ended up staying longer in Japan than I had told them. Bit inconvenient at that very moment, but I understand why they did it.
Smile waived my fees for accidentally exceeding my overdraft (couldn't transfer money from saving account because I was sick and hospitalised for several days when several direct debit charges came through). Which is nice of them. Overall, I'd say that my banks met my expectations.
no issues with HSBC... not even a murmur when i went to LA and didnt tell them i was going... good as gold as they say.

RBS - My main bank and have been great this year. Sorting out a new mortgage was easy.
John Lewis Partnership - my main credit card. Notified me of dodgy activity on my card quickly as I would expect. shame their online services is a complete pain in the ass.
Mastercard - great service. never needed to use the emergency card they sent me, but I greatly appreciated that they were able to deliver a replacement card to Cairo for me.
I had a choice.. I paid for the service.Originally Posted by Saracen
When you have two choices and no others.. you have to go with it, no? The bank wants a valuation if I want the service and I wanted the service so I paid.

only joined my bank in august, and i've already had 5 new cards. and they send out the card on a thursday and the pin on a friday, and as soon as they send the new card the old one is then useless.
basically.. they send a card on thursday and cancel the one i have, i then need to wait 'til monday for the letter with the pin in. absolutely infuriating!
all 5 cards were not asked for, either.
i hope Lloyds TSB collectively burn in hell for all eternity tbh.
Lloyds call me up from somewhere in India...
Lloyds: Hello sir, I'm calling to tell you that you are owing your credit card over 1.1k and we would like to know how you are wishing to pay it back
Me: Pardon? I know I've not missed a payment, my balance is X and I have a credit limit of Y
Lloyds: Yes sir, your balance is X, but your credit limit is now W, therefore you owe us over 1.1k
Me: My credit limit is wut?!?! How did that happen?
Lloyds: well I have a note on your file you told us you were currently unemployed, is that so?
Me: Yes, I thought I should, should I have problems in the future. However I have not missed a payment, so there shouldn't be an issue?
Lloyds: I'm sorry sir, your new limit is W. When will you pay us the balance, reminding you sir that it needs to be in the next 30days before the next payment is due so you don't incur any more penalties.
Me: any more penalties? How so?
Lloyds: Your limit was dropped before you made your last payment, so we have charged you £21.
Me: *&^%$ off! Are you for real?
Lloyds: Can you tell me now sir when you can make the payment of the outstanding balance?
Me: I can't, I have no job & I get a measly £60 per week. Obviously I don't have any money.
Lloyds: Well sir, can I suggest you make effort to find the money to make payment before the due date. I suggest you ask friends or family if you can borrow the money.
Me: But I don't have either & certainly not with that money to spare.
Lloyds: Sir, when can I say you wil be making payment so I can make a note on your file.
Me: I have no idea, I don't have the cash, I don't know anyone with the cash & more to the point, I'd not be in this position if you hadn't duped my credit limit.
Lloyds: so, can i say for argument's sake by the 28th Dec then?
Me: How the feck do I know?
Lloyds: Sir, I strongly suggest you make your best effort to find the money. I sympethise with you not working, will you have a job within the next two weeks?
... Well it went on this way for some time with me getting more irate at the poor Indian lady who had no comprehension of what my problem was, cared very little & at the end of the day was only doing her job.
So "Royally screwed me, I hate them and want to kill them, dead in the face" is my vote. I just wish I had payment protection, or had been able to move my credit card to the CO-OP with the rest of my financials that i did a few months ago. You just can't deal, imo, with some poor sod in India in a meaningful way.
So they lowered your credit limit without notifying you at all, causing you to incur a penalty charge that you wouldn't have otherwise incurred? Did you get some legal advice on that?

Did they?
If not, did you report them to the ombudsman?
they have to notify you of any changes to your contract in writing in advance.
If they do this, you have the option to "freeze" the card. Interest rates and repayment rules remain the same, but you can't borrow any more money on it.
I have too many back accounts to count.
All were OK to me apart from Aliance and Leicester. £150 for a single mistake and they give me back £25 as a good will gesture!
£150! thats more than i have got fined by all other banks ever since I had my first account.
But apparently now laws on being fair apply to everyone else apart from banks.

I was charged £50 for being overdrawn on an account after mistakenly thinking I'd transferred money from a saving account to a current account to pay for something approx. £700.
Admittedly this was my fault. My defence was:
a) I had always been "in the black" averaging the balance over my two accounts
b) I was a long standing customer of 10 years, this was the first time it happened
c) It occured on Monday, they informed me by post on Wednesday, despite charing me an extra £15 per day extra, on top of the initial £20 charge. While all the time having my mobile number, e-mail, work number and home telephone number...they didn't once try to contact me by any of these methods
They point blank refused to cancel charge, even the £30 late charge which could have been avoided, despite me threatening to move bank accounts if it wasn't cancelled. They then decided to wait 2 months before taking the payment, presumably so it hopefully slipped my attention and so I had gotten over the initial rage, which in turn could've f***ed up my finances again (but didn't).
I think you'll agree that's a pretty ****ty way to treat a loyal customer, the bank was LloydsTSB.
2000 - 2007 awful years.
2008 - it got to the point where I was living in the last £10 of both my Credit Card and Overdraft for most of the time.
2009 - I grew a pair, went to the bank, sorted it out and now I'm less than 3 years away from being out of debt (student loan excluded of course). The buggers have made enough money from me. No more debt until I get a mortage after this is paid off. I hope.
Overall 2009 was okay, couple of charges that randomly appeared. In the past 6 months I've paid 15p in charges, so I can't complain.

Had no problems over the past year from Natwest, nothing particularly special, but they've been competent and couldn't have done much else aside from give me some money
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
