    Forum question

I want to start a project log for a couple of things, is it acceptable to spam my own thread to reserve the first four or five posts for updates and extra info?

(this is standard practise on some forums, especially on XDA-Devs when new custom ROMs are released)

Yea that's fine as far as I know. I'm sure I've seen it in a couple of logs I've read.

    Re: Forum question

    Don't see why not, Funky.

Reserve what you need, within reason, and we can always delete the surplus once you're done to tidy it up.

And, ask people not to post until you're done, and we can delete any "messing" posts that appear .... and slap the relevant backsides.

The "reserved" trick is not something I'd want to see as a general principle all the time, but where there's a particular reason for a specific point, I don't see why not at all. After all, the end result is content for the forum and that's good for all of us.

    So go to it, Funky.

    Re: Forum question

    Cool, thanks dudes.

I'm still writing up the rough bones of it, will need to take and post a load of photos to really flesh things out and as I'm offshore, that isn't goign to happen for another week or so. It's a shame there is no way to save a draft of posts, I actually find it easier to write things up on here than in word (can add links as I'm going for example).

Well .... there kinda is, if we set it up.

The way to do that is a private forum that is only accessible to those explicitly given access, and the mod team of course, and not even viewable by the membership. Then, when you're done we can move or copy the thread to the relevant forum for you. I have used this technique on other forums, but never discussed it here and won't promise to do it without discussing it with the team.

It's not worth doing for one person for one project, but if it were something that a number of people would use, it might be worth it.

I'll do some soundings with the admins, and if anyone else would find this useful for deveoping long, complex stuff, please express an interest.

    Re: Forum question

I did wonder if there was a way to fudge it, but it would be good if vB could do it by default without having to go to the trouble of creating private forums etc. Really just a Drafts folder in your profile

I appretiate the thought Saracen, but really, don't do it on my account!

    Re: Forum question

Well, I've raised the idea. I'm not sure it isn't a good idea to do it anyway, in which case, if other agree, it'll happen pretty quickly. But it may be that others come up with reasons not to do it. We'll see.

I don't know if it's in the right forum, pretty sure thats the best fit, even if it is a forum no-one goes into

Oh, and a lot of work still to do on it before anyone asks.
