ISTR one credit card giving you a generated unique "online credit card number" for each transaction, so you can limit this sort of thing?

There was a link but it then need 3 steps- Name and address, credit card details, and email address. But I didn't bother with it and closed the page. Will check my next statement.

Maybe they have changed it then as I definitely wasn't asked to enter any credit card details... that's good

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

As you say they could have changed it after having complaints about it. But I will keep an eye out for this sort of thing in the future!

Just to bump this back up to the top - found an article linked to by HardOCP mentioning a similar situation over the other side of the Atlantic:

    good find Mike

Cuomo’s investigation has found that when consumers shop online from familiar retailers, they are often presented with a discount or cash-back incentive offer as they complete their purchase. When consumers click on the discount or incentive banner, they are unknowingly directed to a membership program seller’s Web page that is separate from the online retailer’s site. The consumer is then instructed through large, colorful print and voice prompts to accept the discount or incentive. Information about joining the membership program and its ramifications, including the fact that the consumer is agreeing to transfer his or her credit or debit card account information, is buried in fine print and cluttered text. Small and recurring charges then begin to appear on consumers’ credit or debit card bills from unfamiliar companies.
that is what occured. Sair was never asked for her Credit Card Details a second time, they were passed on to the company FROM ticketmaster, when she agreed to recieve regular updates on Ticket Deals.
