Jobcentre ad banned as it could be "offensive" to unreliable people.

Advert for 'reliable' worker 'rejected' by Jobcentre
A Hertfordshire recruitment agency boss says she was told she could not request "reliable and hard-working" applicants.

Devonwood Recruitment boss Nicole Mamo said the Jobcentre Plus in Thetford, Norfolk, told her such an advert could be "offensive" to unreliable people.

Ms Mamo said: "I started to laugh. I said: 'That's crazy'."

A Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) spokesperson said the advert was worded as Ms Mamo requested online - but did not deny it differed in the Jobcentre.

Ms Mamo's company was advertising for a cleaning job at West Suffolk Hospital.

She said that she told a Jobcentre worker that "hard-working and reliable" were essential words for the advert, but received the reply that those words could not be used as they "may discriminate against the unreliable".
How bluddy stupid and officious can you get?

I wonder how many people would be unreliable if they starved.

the strange thing is, i reckon plenty of people still would be.

    the world has gone mad.

it's things like this that give a positive outlook to those who are lazy, unreliable and generally untrustworthy...

it's ok to be these things as we can't do anything about it if you are.

I would like an untrustworthy checkout assistant or bank manager please. errr no.

wonder if 'previous experience required' will be banned on account of it offending certain 'film' stars

I'll bet the jobcentre worker feels like a right pillock now

Don't blame the system for this one. This is completely down to one complete ****wit.
Unfortunately, there's a lot of them in public service in positions far beyond their abilities.

Re: Jobcentre ad banned as it could be "offensive" to unreliable people.

    ^^ what badass said!

This isn't the world going mad, it's people in positions of (negligible) power that have to make them selves heard and justify their own jobs.

It's got nothing to do with a "compensation culture" or anyone being offended, it's about the fear of being sued or the fear of someone being offended.

I'm pretty sure, if an unreliable person was to be asked, they wouldn't give a damn about the wording of a job advert an answer as they are too bloody unreliable

just one more reason we should give natural selection a chance....

with natural resources getting more scarce... isnt it about time we started letting people do stupid stuff?

health and safety this, health and safety that... no, if you want to survive, you need to have your wits about you... too stupid to do that... too stupid to survive... thats nobodies fault but your own!

I quite agree that we need an element of natural selection back. Todays Nanny culture is completely removing any chance we have of species improvement or evolution...roll on the day when we know enough about genes to start undoing all the stagnation and damage that's occurring.

We stopped evolving 'naturally' the moment we stopped being hunter-gatherers and started farming to survive.

Well obviously; but even up until now, you still needed some element of brains/common sense, and reasonable health, to survive.

In the last 100 years, that has obviously dramatically changed.

No, I am not suggesting we kill all the unhealthy people - that would be a little too harsh.
