True, saw the trailer at the cinema last week.

I think Gibson is getting a bit past it to be making action movies.

Having seen it (the film in full that is), I'd not say that was the case at all, and until you see it how possibly can you pass comment

Back on topic its a bit disappointing to see more anime being butchered in Hollywood but I guess it was a given it would be a venue to explore after the tv series to film adaptations have been exhausted.

On the plus side, the inevitable sacrilege of the Ghost in the Shell name is likely to drive interest in watching the original, which can only be a good thing.

That's my take. The people who already know/like GitS wouldn't be put off by the original no matter how much/if the remake is butchered. Of the people who have not seen it, some will be put off by GitS (no loss, since they weren't going to see the original anyway), and others may decide to check out the original (since most reviewers will mention that it's a remake). Some may become fans of the original (good), others may still not (fair enough).
