i like cats...and have 4 with a 1 dog great post though made me laugh
I think both have their advantages and disadvantages - I think Dogs are normally more popular due to them being more of a companion rather than just a pet.
Love both Cats and Dogs, but Dogs have that something extra Cats dont.
Was I really the only person who saw the title and immediately thought its a bit odd to be planning a BBQ whilst the weather is like this?

Dogs for me too, unless it is a dog brought up to be violent.
My Mum has a cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle, laughably called a cockerpoo. Very cute dog though.
Dogs
Cats for me, we have just gotten a new one as our old one died at 18.5 years old.
New one is only 18 months I think and is very lively, wakes up at 5.30-6AM because it was a farm cat and chases string around and attacks sheepskin rugs all the time, well funny.
I do like dogs but don't have one due to no one would want to walk it.

I'm a dog man myself (not litterally )
For me:
Dogs = GIVE
Cats = WANT
I also can't stand it when a cat jumps on your lap, and then performs some kind of inhumane acupuncture, before curling up
*edit* Oh and most of the cats around here seem to see my gardens as some kind of public toilet, which gets right on my wick! They are very lucky that it is against the law to shoot them!
This question has been answered by science, and the answer is therefore indisputably that dogs are best. Unfortunately, I hate both; my loathing of dogs probably has something to do with being knocked over into a puddle by a labrador as a tot though.
The thing is, Dogs can do EVERYTHING and MORE than a cat - no debate on that front.
But some people might not want all the attention you need to give dogs i.e. giving it walks, playing with it, training it etc.
Then you have looks, and again, some people prefer a Cat than a Dog regarding looks.
I still think Cats that are toilet trained are just LOL.
If it is anything like the labradors I've met, they are clumsy as hell rather than malicious. I grew up with two Boxers - my Nan & Grandad's dogs, and they were my best friends - always used to be able to play with them in the garden and take them for walks etc. They never pulled on the lead, they would play in the garden at a million miles an hour and never hurt me etc. Fantastic dogs, unfortunately one died of Pneumonia and the other of Cancer
When we got Chloe (picture earlier in the thread), she became an instantly accepted furball amongst the two Boxers, they made sure she knew her place! That said, they would have a fantastic time running round like nutters.
Even got a photo somewhere of a very young Chloe helping my Grandfather in the restoration of his MG Magnette, fantastic memory
And that is why dogs rule, I don't know of any cat owner who can say they've done any of the above with their cat?
That said, when Penny & Tessa (the Boxers) and Chloe were all together, my grandparents had a Siamese cat, which ruled the roost, but more often than not could be found laid in the middle of the two boxers keeping warm!
