Advice on claiming compensation on someones insurance

Yesterday evening about 5:30 i got a call from the a woman who works with my missus to say she had been knocked off her bike by a guy in a car. She wasnt' badly hurt a cut on her chin bruised hip and such (luckily full face helmet and some donwhill pads took the brunt)

Anyway she was taken to the hospital and checked out and the police had a chat and took a statement. From what she said she was riding down the road pretty slowly about 15-20mph max and she saw him at the t junction he slowed down as if he was gonna stop so she carried on as normal and then he didn't actually stop he just pulled out and hit her bike which slipped out from under her and she went down on her chin and hip. As i said she wasn't badly hurt very shaken and has had today off work. She had right of way on the road and he said he didn't see her she has two sets of lights on the bike 1 set flashing and the other set on constant Front and back, hi viz backpack cover etc and there are some street lights.

The police have said they will phone her monday with the guys insurance details and that she should look into claiming some compensation, What i was hoping someone could do is advise us what to do really

her bike now has the following damage

Front wheel buckled front rotor now has a kick in it handlebars slightly bent end caps trashed one light mount is broken one of her XT levers is bent and wobbly and some oil has come out of the O-ring on her forks,

Her bike is not hugely expensive but it is an 07 kona shred upgraded with marzocchi junior T's and deore xt levers and disc brakes.

Will his insurance pay for the repairs and most importantly she uses it for work but someone said i shouldn't fix it until we have contacted the insurance as they may want to see it.

Cheers for your help guys haven't really got a clue what her next move should be.

Its difficult when you are not an insurance company, when dealing with it privately it can take ages for them to admit responsibility. She should take lots of pictures now, ideally she should not touch the bicycle however in my experience they will take months and if she needs it for work she needs to do something, the accident is reported so on the record. Even if she fixes it herself she should get an estimate for the repair costs that was there is atleast some proof as to the damage and the cost, if the repair costs are high they might just try to give her the cost of a second had bike to the same spec. (insurance companies ideas of spec can be very different from reality). No they will not pay... now the might pay much later, in the mean time she will have to pay. If it were a car fully comp, your insurance would fix it then later they would try at get the money back if they didn't think it was your fault. My insurance company wanted to make it a fault claim when part of a building feel on my car! Which would have been very expensive insurance wise, getting the money out of the other insurance company is like getting blood out of a stone.

cheers for that the policeman seemed to think the best idea was speaking to one of those injury lawyers for you.

He did admit at the scene that he didn't see her which i see as hime taking responsibility as he pulled out of the turning but it's all a pain the repairs could end up going to £200-300 as getting the front forks serviced is about £100 minimum. And until its repaired she is gonna have to find another way to get to work.
