    Ryanair Boarding Procedure

Just wondered if anyone knows...if I have no baggage to check in and have already checked in online and printed my boarding card/entered passport details etc. do I still need to go to the desks to have them checked, or can I go straight to the security gates?

    Cheers.

Just to add, I've looked on their website but can't find anything.

    Re: Ryanair Boarding Procedure

I've flown loads of times, so no terrifyingness for me! Just never done it without baggage and having already checked in online before.

Funkstar, do you know that from experience, or is it just a guess (just to make sure )

Off topic, but.... There's nothing really to be frightened of by flying... it's the sudden stop when you crash into the ground that's the scary bit....

I hate flying commercially too. Th crowds, the silly security theatre, taking your shoes off, the cramped little seat between two fat smelly passengers. Charter airplanes are the way to go!

Or first class. Fasttrack through security, private lounge access, express boarding, comfy seats and plenty of space, caviar and château Mignon, and even hot roast nuts instead of a bag of peanuts.

Of course, there's charter and there's charter. A charter flight to the Costas with a couple of hundred other tourists and holidaymakers? No thanks. A chartered private Gulfstream? Well, now you're talking ..... as long as you're paying for it.

As for Ryanair procedure, no idea. Never used them, and on principle, never will.

Not difficult though, relatively tiny Airport! (Nice though, I think)

That said, I have a relative that works there, so when I flew Globespan to Palma we waited for our flight in the BA Lounge and watched the F1 Qualifying session that was on!

Just to say, fine to go to security as long as you hold an EU passport. Anyone holding a non-EU passport needs to go to their counter and queue up along with all those who do need to check in baggage for some pointless "visa check".

Its funny how things like ryan air often end up more expensive when you take into account the extras

The scrum to get to the seat, which, when you've boarded you find you don't get unless you paid the extra

I think it was David Gunson that defined landing a plane as a "controlled crash" and a good pilot as one with "the same number of take offs as landings"

Very true, which is why you can get all the way through security to the departures and be queuing for a Costa in 5 minutes. Try that in the large airports, even with a pre printed boarding pass. the layout also helps, it's a wide airport, but not very deep, so you can walk front to back easily.

The point being though, regardless of the size of the airport, it is impossible to do all that without a pre printed boarding pass and no check in baggage.

The other day I went to see if Easyjet had their October flights up yet; we're going to Spain then. Our return flights to Malaga were indeed up- and £50 pp in total. So obviously I hit book now immediately. It turned out that if you want to take a suitcase (god forbid!) you're charged an extra £9 per flight .

So with that, and the cheeky £3 booking fee for using a debit card, it came to a smidge over £270 for four people- less than £68 each. The first time I went to Spain, in 2003, it cost us nearly £200 each for a not particularly good charter flight- so that's stonkingly good value IMO; I usually only fly once or twice a year but I've flown Easyjet probably 8-10 times now and never had the slightest problem.

Given their well publicised contempt for their passengers, I wouldn't fly Ryanair unless the flight cost less than 20 quid and it didn't actually matter whether I got there or not.

Edit: forgot to say- my Mum travels a lot- she's a teacher, so usually goes away every holiday and half term. She had a bet with one of her friends to see who could get a Solo or Electron card first, so they'd be able to avoid paying the 1% debit card fee. AFAIK all the banks laughed at her when she asked for one.

    Re: Ryanair Boarding Procedure

yes but a friend of mine went to geneva not so long ago.

I paid £130 with citijet, she paid £110 with easyjet. or something there abouts

I had luggage, no fees for cards, and it is cheaper by about £15 to go from city rather than luton.

Its not always the case, but you really should keep the total cost in mind.
