    Kidney stones

    Anyone had any?

Been in excruciating pain for the last week, so much so that I've not slept. Ended up in hospital all day and night yesterday for various tests, x rays etc and then all morning today for a ct scan, turns out I've got a kidney stone >_<

Supposed to book in for an op in 18 days but it clashes with my holiday which I can't really change around. Apparantly I might just pass it by then but wondering if anyone else has had one and what they did to get rid of it, does it hurt to pee it out? xD

Just can't see peeing stones a pleasent experience tbh.

    Re: Kidney stones

I had one in late 90's. Its what caused my fibromyalgia to kick off. Worst part was 2am, PAIN and I was admitted to hospital 9 times in 3 months.

Finally got on list for operation to stick small ultrasonic hammer on a tube up my errr, thingy, but as luck would have it, I passed mine THREE days before I was due to go in !!

and yes, Im sorry to report that peeing it out was just as excruciating as the pain in my back but then I wept with relief, real tears !!!

You sir, have my full and complete empathy and sympathy

    Good Luck.
    Cheers, David

Just don't watch Deadwood Season 2 is all I can say....

If you're lucky, the stone will be too large to pass whole and they'll use ultrasound to break it up a bit.

    Re: Kidney stones

I've had one too.. they are very very painful. Till then I had never felt pain like that intense before. I was in a hot country and was drinking not much water. Really bad idea!

After the drip in the hospital, I drunk water continuously.. just forced myself to drink more. It's pretty sick, but doctor said I had to. I think what was happening during that time was the stone that was lodged in my kidney was being eroded away by the passing water. After about a week it was small and smooth enough that it could pass through the urinary tract. When it came out during pee, it felt just like a short pinch. Not painful at all, just very relieved (sorry) to see it come out. Although I told doc and he said the passing of the stone should have been really painful.

    Re: Kidney stones

i've had 3 or 4 in the last 6 years and answers to the name 'lucky', and i've got or had a mega one. it's now half the size after two sessions of blasting - which hurt like hell, so instaed of being 10mm radius it's now only 5. it turns out that this stone has been dorment for about 5 years.

the last time it was bad was on a friday night (typical) after i'd just driven back from somerset where i'd been on site all week. got home and within an hour i was in agony, so much so the missus had to get the ambulance out. don't bother with entonox as it's pants and made me thirsty as hell. the only thing that did it for me was the iv morphine ( sweet).

still suffer twinges, so plenty of liquid (although i was told alcohol doesn't count ) - cranberry juice being one, although i have read that the fresh juices of severel million lemons helps (the acid helps to break them down - apparently. and on account of acid reflux don't want to find out), don't know if this is true though - i found that answer at a painful 3am when suffering a bout.

as for pain killers, i have two.

    1. sodium diclofenic

    2. the good old fashioned painkiller - tramadol. make me feel great when 2 of them kick in, at the moment i only use the 50mg ones as the first lot from the hospital were 100's and made me go all gozzy eyed. always got a good supply of both them and the diclofenic and always got some with me as you never know when.

there is no easy way to get rid. first is to drink and drink to wear it down and get it moving.

second is a coupe of sessions of Extra Corporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy or ESWL, invovles shock waves blasting it into smaller pieces - and may involve a suppository and a piankiller in a lollipop - which tastes digusting.

thirdly is the op, with a micro claw or blaster up the japsey - i think thats what was said to me, but i stopped listening to the consultant when he mentioned the words 'op' and 'japsey'. they then grab the stone or shock it in pieces.

    Re: Kidney stones

Sodium diclofenic and Tramadol, exactly what I have
So far the pain hasn't hit again since but it's usually hitting me roughly every 24 hours and lasts anywhere between 10-16 hours in which time I'll have about 5 burning hot baths and go through a large pack of ice (helps subdue the pain a little).
I'm not too fussed about the pain or any op..
It's just, I've been housebound since I was 18, I'm now approaching 26 this month and had planned to take my first holiday away with my fiance on the 19th of this month, I'm scared as hell that this is going to ruin it

    Re: Kidney stones

I'm now terrified of getting kidney stones, is there anyway to avoid getting them - lifestyle wise ? And when you say 'pass them' I'm assuming peeing them out - but they look huge on that picture O.o
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
