Would repeated power failures whilst a PC is on damage it any significant way?
we keep getting intermittant power failures at work and i swear my hard drive is making noises now that it wasn't before.

I would imagine so yeah, cos the head on the disk don't get a chance to "park" properly... and they just stop where they are on the platter which is (sorry if this is condescending in anyway - don't know your level of PC-age) rather like a small, thick CD... and it can get scratched, with nasty horrible effects.. like odd noises...

may I quietly suggest a back-up afore the thing stops working altogether????

go get a ups man
I was in the middle of processing an order so i guess the hdd would be in use
As for getting a UPS the phrase, not a chance in hell springs to mind

parking a hard drive isnt an issue any more, hasnt been for about 10 years. the only damage would be caused by a 'spike' in the current before it cuts out afaik
