Dont banks get on your bloody nerves?

Just a bit of frustration now... i paid in over 1.3k on Saturday before closing time (1k cheque ~300 cash), waited for it to show up and finally on Monday at 1pm it was on my account saying that i had 1.4k in my account and ~£300 usable, i assumed this was because the cheque was clearing which i expected anyway so i went on to use the £300 as i wanted to.

All was going well through out the day, shops getting payments along with dvla etc and i was waiting for paypal to setup a DD to verify my bank. I check today and what do you know, im about £200 OVERDRAWN! My account isnt setup for an overdraft (i never needed) so im fuming since i will be hit for like £28 a pop. The cheque and money seem to have disappeared!.

I rang up asap and the nice support lady asked me general questions and said if the cheque was from an unreliable source, clearly not as it was from Halifax since i just closed the account there. No reason why the cash has disappeared though, she said she will forward my message and issue to the branch and they will call me back.... so now im stuck waiting, i never like waiting when its alot of money on the line .

How on earth do you lose money thats already entered my flipping account, did it get lost in transit or something O.o.

This was with natwest >.<. End rant

Re: Dont banks get on your bloody nerves?

It's dead easy to "loose" the money, all it takes is a mistyped account number on the paperwork. What is worrying is that the money showed in your account and then disappeared, especially if you checked online or via an ATM, rather than at the branch.

You can't draw anything less than £30 over the counter at Santander. I've just finished paying off my overdraft, and will be removing my custom from them just as soon as I can actually get to a branch (of course, there aren't any within 2 miles of my office... )

Re: Dont banks get on your bloody nerves?

My brother's account disappeared on his last payday - his work blaming the bank and the bank blaming work. He couldn't login online and it took about 3 hours of phonecalls to the bank to 'sort it' again. Ridiculous tbh.

Re: Dont banks get on your bloody nerves?

Went in, all sorted now so i do have to give credit to the lass at the natwest branch, very helpful.

Basically what happened was that since i paid both my cheque and cash together in the machine it isnt processed until its sent to the main site(a bit up from here), this should have meant the money wouldnt have gone into my account until wednesday (and the cheque at a later date) but for some reason their system glitched and showed me the funds before hand.

The guy who helped me pay it in should have told me the time delay instead of saying 1 hour for cash and a few days for the cheque really but oh well. The lady managed to put my account as no funds being paid and so im just waiting for it to be processed and enter my account later tomorrow, atleast that puts my mind at rest haha!.

Re: Dont banks get on your bloody nerves?

Whenever I pay cash and a cheque into the Royal Bank of Scotland they ask if i want the cash to go in separately so it is available straight away. Thus avoiding this problem.

    I learnt the hard way.

With certain banks if you pay cash & cheque on the same slip, it can take 3 days to credit the cash to your account.

before i went on holiday recently I spent £502 in the post office getting my €€€€. the day before I left to go on holiday I went to check my balance online and it said I was something like -£403 overdrawn. Abbey, in their wisdom, had tried to charge me twice for my visit to the post office.

Thankfully the kind lady on the phone managed to charge me for this, only after I had made it crystal clear that I was only there once mind.

Re: Dont banks get on your bloody nerves?

    Bank's especially Barclay's are a nightmare....

I called to confirm my balance last week, went through the usual checks and asked to confirm a recent transaction, which wasn't difficult as I had a recent statement in front of me. The problem was the person on the phone didn't seem to understand English and asked me to confirm the information 3 times, which I did directly from the statement, but still then told me it all didn't match, hung up and locked my account for 24hrs.

Then I noticed £16 that had been taken every month for the last 4 Years, which was for Holiday Insurance, something I never actually wanted or signed for. Barclay's had the cheek to try and palm me off with only one months payment.

Plus then they were charging me £60 per year x 3 for Payment protection, which again... you guessed it, I didn't need, want or sign up for. Barclaycard were very nice when this was queried and said they had a recorded call, which I was happy to listen too. Apparently it takes 5 days to retrieve this..but no call back, no recording, but a miraculous refund.. Again Barclaycard tried to palm me off with only 1 Years refund.

Once I get all of this back, I will be changing Bank's.

They never make a " mistake " which benefits you, always themselves....
