    Noise complaints

Does anyone know the rules and such about this? im going to keep this short and sweet, had a few mates round playing rockband for the past hour or so and now we have just had the police around, let them in a turns out our neighbour (its an ongoing problem they have with us and a fight they wont let go) put in a complaint about the music. granted we had it pretty loud but loud enough to speak over if you raised your voice, either way....

the cop said that if he gets a second complaint today, they would contact environmental health and come to my house and take my system away!

is this allowed? i thought it would need to be proved? surely it would? our neighbour is the kind that makes complaints about every little thing, and lies about them, there has been a number of times when they have complained about music "blaring" from our property when we only had the tv on! its getting pathetic now and i need to find out our rights, housing officer said its ok as long as its at an acceptable level, the cops who came before (when next door lied about us playing music) said we could and never mentioned it before.

and just to make one thing clear as im getting fed up of your snarling comments, if you have a problem with an UNRELATED thread i made, and insist on bringing it up dont! it ent needed, im not aiming this at anyone im just making it clear as its nothing to do with this thread and seems to "somehow" get into every thread i make ta!

    Re: Noise complaints

the easiest thing to do would be (if theyre open  ) call the CAB and ask your rights... I'm fairly sure you have your rights to play stuff fairly loud in your home, especially if its a "one off" type thing and doesnt happen every other day... but im not 100% sure...

never had to deal with them...

luckily i live with my parents in a detached house, and even when i play guitar very loud, with the windows closed my neighbours can barely hear it, and they let me play a bit because i dont do it often

    Re: Noise complaints

Copper was just giving you a friendly warning. Environmental health wouldn't take anything away without taking a series of objective readings from outside the property. If you're sure it's not that loud then you're fine.

    Re: Noise complaints

I'm surprised the police turned up for that. One of our neighbours has a garden party with a professional DJ each year on the Reading Festival weekend. I've been out of the country the last few times, so I don't know if they're still doing it. About five years ago we got so fed up with it that mum called 999 to ask for the police. They said they don't deal with noise complaints and gave us the number for the noise people, I guess environmental health. When we called them, they said they won't investigate unless they get three different complaints.

This was a party that I could clearly hear through double glazing from three detached houses away, complete with effin' and jeffin' from the DJ. It didn't stop until around 3:30am.

    Re: Noise complaints

Alternatively instead of going out of your way to wind up your neighbours why not speak to them and find out what exactly it is that they're objecting to? I'll be honest and say that I'm glad I don't live near some of the posters in this thread..

It was an early evening session for Razer as far as I can see, and this may have caused concern with the neighbours that the volume may continue into the night, causing disturbance on a midweek evening when the kids have just gone back to school.

There used to be a guy who lived in the same block of flats as me who would have music playing the the extent that I couldn't hold a conversation in my flat without raising my voice. Every single person in the block put in complaints and he's no longer there. If we're going to have a bit of a get-together we'll generally let the neighbours know beforehand, ask them if they fancy dropping in for a few drinks and the like. We don't do it on weeknights if it's going to be going on past 9, as everyone in the flats has to be up and out the house by 7.30 every weekday.

Just have a little thought for others is all I'm saying, I guess.

    Re: Noise complaints

    a few web sites
    http://www.ehow.com/how_2157562_file...complaint.html

    official goverment site
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndC...er/DG_10029682

also each local council will tell you also what their procedure is

    from your point of view

also at Maplins they do this sound level monitor which records the sound level of
your music as a visable number in decibels

but by the time of your post and when police advised you, i would have said your neighbour may have a case in point.
