Google adsense / Chrome is watching me!

    Anyone else notice this?

I'm using Chrome, and any time I go on a website with adsense adverts, it now shows me adverts based on my internet history

I was looking at £59 speakers on the Richer-sounds website, then adverts for the exact same model appeared on following websites. I sent a parcel with parcel2go and then adverts for parcel2go followed me onto other websites... Today I watched the Hexus.tv Titanium (Trend Micro) episode... and now there are adverts for Titanium on sites that use Google adsense!

    Kinda freaky!
ALSO annoying, as it kept making me think about buying those speakers....!!! Grr!

I'm pretty sure there's a way to opt out of these, but the way I've done so in the past involves installing a Firefox extension rather than the cookie which I might delete.

EDIT: I think this is what you need. http://www.google.co.uk/privacy_ads.html

Re: Google adsense / Chrome is watching me!

Yeah, display remarketing is all the rage - the company I work for is pushing the product in the UK, but while it's absolutely suited for a number of business verticals, we're still seeing the vast majority pursuing performance driven online advertising - specifically PPC.

What's funny is some of the adverts that come up when my wife's been using the computer. No thanks, no fit-flops for me today....

Thin end of the wedge this is and very Phorm-like. I like the way they state "To protect your privacy, we follow three principles when we serve ads: etc."

I tell you what, I'd prefer it if they just didn't do it in the first place.

Unfortunately adverts are getting more and more invasive, its not just Google, I'm getting banner ads matching up to my web history appearing more and more whether I'm signed into google or not

    Not just adsense and Chrome.

I can't remember what site I was looking at, but it was American, but the adverts were for items on Screwfix I had just been looking at. These were Flash adverts in Opera.

I ignored them just like I ignore virtually all adverts.

Re: Google adsense / Chrome is watching me!

Google is too big for its boots. I don't want its spy cookies in any shape or form and that includes their opt-out (larf) cookie. I have to do helluva lot of porn searches just to 'disguise' the things I'm really interested in. Unfortunately, this targets me with filth sites I haven't..erm..found on my own. Oh woe is me
