    Who's using Google Chrome then?

So i've just downloaded it, and am using it to type this.
And i have to say, i like it! I like the max use of my screen compared to Firefox, it seems pretty quick, and no rendering problems so far.

I do miss Ad-block Plus though (but not on Hexus, natch!), and Cooliris/Piclens, and a few other plug-ins, but i'm sure they'll come along in time.

I'm liking it. Nice one google.
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

Re: Who's using Google Chrome then?

heh, I stopped using it after about 10 minutes because of it not remembering to zoom the text on any linked or new page. It's fast though but I'm sure when it gets a final release it will have more junk to slow it down.

Re: Who's using Google Chrome then?

Installed it at work today after noticing it on an RSS feed.

I quite like the look and feel of it, but I find it odd that it doesn't come with more Google 'features' as standard, such as GoogleToolbar etc.

Also seconded on how fast it is. Even more than Firefox 3.0

Re: Who's using Google Chrome then?

Because toolbars are really useless, and unneccery. Especially in this case becuase google gets everything they need directly from the browser.

Re: Who's using Google Chrome then?

Far from it. I find it useful for checking my Gmail on the go when I don't have an email client configured. Also I use Google to store all my online bookmarks for the same reason, and in case I decide to re-format or use a different browser.

I can backup very very little that way

Re: Who's using Google Chrome then?

That functionality can be added to any browser without a toolbar.

I'd love to see how that can be done without breaking functionality such as adding, removing, editing, labelling, and easily managing all my bookmarks all on-the-fly, from anywhere in the world. No, really, I'm rather intrigued

Re: Who's using Google Chrome then?

They made some interesting architecture changes. I'll be watching to see how it develops.

I like the integrated task manager.

For now, it seems to have major problems with Flash-heavy sites (apart from Youtube, of course!). Try www.adobe.com, www.dell.co.uk - at least half of the Flash site navigation is just plain missing.

I miss my Firefox plugins and also live bookmarks. They need to work on the Options pages too, they're remarkably spartan at the moment.

If you want to be scared, read the EULA - or check Platinum's linky.

The same way google, and others do it. Take a snapshot of your bookmarks and replicate them onto a server, then when you're later on another computer, reconnect to the server and update the bookmarks to check for changes, any changes made to the bookmarks are pushed back onto the server. Very simple, really.

Re: Who's using Google Chrome then?

I have to assume there is a lot of 'phoning home' with chrome, as that is big part of what Google do. I could be wrong though as I've not looked in any great detail. I did install it at work however and used it for a few minutes browsing. I read that it uses Gecko (but I got that particular snippet from wikipedia so who knows) which as far as I'm concerned can only be good. Will they keep it concurrent with firefox and opera though?

As far as the comment on screen real estate is concerned, most browsers (read not IE) are flexible and my copy of firefox at home has just a tiny toolbar along the top that contains everything I need.

I've not read anything on plugin development for Chrome, but I would say it would be a bad move if it's any worse that Firefox.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Re: Who's using Google Chrome then?

At first I thought I might give it a go, but then realised there is no Linux version out yet. But as for changing permanently to any browser other than Firfox, I could not bare to go without Adblock plus and other addons. Hopefully in the future Chrome will allow for plugins but I can't see Google wanting any advert blocking plugins, not so good for their business.

I read that it uses Gecko (but I got that particular snippet from wikipedia so who knows) which as far as I'm concerned can only be good.
I think it uses WebKit, same as Apple Safari.

whats the point in it really?

I mean, same sh*t different browser.

Firefox and IE7 do the job quiet well so why do we need another browser?

Re: Who's using Google Chrome then?

because there are always things that can be improved, tab isolation is a VERY good idea.

(it took a while with Prof. Lebstrum to explain to my dad why internet banking should always be opened in a new session of IE, never ever to use FF).

    Multithreading javascript, VERY good idea.

There are definate bits that are room for improvment, why i often get upset with the browser development is too much is aimed at the web dev. Now, i'm not looking down on them when i say screw the stupid morons, its just its a case of it should be dictated by the client having a good time, not the web dev finding it easy. Chrome looks to actually be doing things that are very good for the user, and its about damn time.

Well i'm still loving it. It performed much better on the War-Europe web site than IE7, Firefox during the really crap time of trying to register my beta key yesterday.
