    Review an eGay listing, allowed?

Hi, I'm not sure if it's against the rules so I thought I would ask, I have seen a few eBay listings linked to for review or comedy value. I however have something I have been trying to sell on their for around a month and it's still not sold. The weird thing is I have no idea why? The listing looks good to me, and I sold a similar item around 6 months ago and for at least £800+. I just can't shift this one, would I be allowed to post a link to see if I could get feedback from the good honest members of Hexus?

The item that I would be linking to, the auction will have ended, so I am not promoting an auction, and I will most certainly not answer any requests to purchase said item (I should be so lucky) unless I advertise it in the For Sale forum and ensure my advertisement complies with all forums rules.

The item is of course a piece of IT equipment.

So would that be allowed or would I get my bum spanked and trouble from the Moderators?

PM'ing a mod would probably be your best bet, although calling it 'eGay' constantly probably wont help.

I believe it's Hexus.classifieds or eBay, not both. Even though it's a dead auction, it's still something you're wanting to sell. Since the auction has ended, why not just put a new add in classifieds anyway?

And really, eGay? It's not big and it's not clever. Fleabay, far enough
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good

Lol apologies I originally thought you weren't allowed to mention eBay, think I'm getting rules and standard practices/common behaviours mixed up between common forums. (or I am stupid).

I just wanted to see if I was doing something stupid on the listing, 'cos I am confused as to why it hasn't sold.

Re: Review an eGay listing, allowed?

    hehe no problem

Have similar items been selling recently? If there has, then it's your price, review and/or feedback. If there hasn't, then well, apparently no one's interested right now. Like I said, stick it on classifieds, it's not going to cost you anything

    I don't mind having a look.

If you thought that you weren,t allowed to mention ebay, you must think HEXUS members must be pretty stupid if you thought changing a B for a G would fool anyone! And Hexus isn't any old common forum, it is the HEXUS forum!

But leaving that aside, you can tell us what the item is (and satisfy madduckuk,s curiosity) and someone may give you an opinion of its value.

If it is an opinion on the ebay listing layout, I'll check with the other admin/mods for their opinion.

Re: Review an eGay listing, allowed?

It was a DELL Latitude D420 Laptop, cost me over £1k, but never used it. Was going to change career slightly and start my own business (consultancy) but decided to sit out the credit crunch and do some training and certifications/build a new desktop computer instead. Just looking to use the sale of it to clear off my credit card before Christmas shopping starts...

Re: Review an eGay listing, allowed?

when did you pay a grand for it? i presume a while back?

you see technology is subject to moores law.. and although im not sure how it works exactly, i think it means that hardware will become 2 x more powerful every 18 months. and if you have something a few months old the price will become less very quickly. i think half the original price every 18 months. and this is for new stuff.

i don't know what your laptop is worth but i reckon you will be asking too much for it. maybe conciser lowering the price.

one way to find out it's current value would be to search for all laptops that are the same on ebay and watch them. see what final price they get. surprisingly you will notice that most items that start at 99p end highest.

Re: Review an eGay listing, allowed?

A refurb with a short warranty sells easily for under £160 from sellers with thousands of positive feedback. Given that, I wouldn't pay more than £200. You might be able to shift it a little higher if you can find a generous buyer, but I can't see anyone pay more than £210 (you'd need good feedback too).

Re: Review an eGay listing, allowed?

Ah that seems to be where I am going wrong, damn someone offered me £350 last week and I turned it down, looks like I should have really accepted that.

Weird because the specification still sells on the DELL website for over £1k, those sort of small laptops don't seem to price drop all that much?

give us the exact spec, are you referring to the D4200 on the dell webby? the only spec that is going to be the same is the screen size tbh

Re: Review an eGay listing, allowed?

I don't see a problem with getting an opinion on what the issues are with a dead listing, but wouldn't be wildly impressed if it was to promote a current listing. I accept that that isn't what's being asked or in this case, though.

I don't see a problem, but as I don't have much to do with our sales section, I'll defer to those on the mod team that do.
