Question Anyone know anything about WWII medals/etc ?

My dad has quite a few passed down from his dad & general collecting, I asked over on another forum a while back & was told they were worth about £8-£10 each (mini MBE worth a bit more)

He is now thinking of selling some & I could do with checking them out again & making sure I don't sell something valuable for a pittance! So, does anyone know about this sort of stuff? I'd much appreciate it

I've been offered £30 for 1/2/3/8 in this picture - is this about right?

    The rest are below

Loads more that don't yet have pics, it's a big job sorting it all out!

    Thanks folks!

I would of thought some sort of specific site or shop would be better off for this sort of stuff, I certainly wouldnt sell them without getting a good few different places quote, perhaps there might be a book for that sort of thing in your local library?

    Quick google found these lot.

Interesting collection. I know nothing about them, much less their value, but I'd say the vast bulk were more like cap badges, lapel pins, unit insignias etc, than actually medals (except for one).

There must be WWII forums about where you'd get people that'd recognise most of those immediately. I used to know some that that would have but, sadly, he can no longer help. It'd be interesting to know how you get on. Were it me, I'd rather keep them in the family unless they're either worth a lot (doubtful, I'd guess) or the money is really needed. I've got some items that have come to me from my Dad, that he got from his parents and, in some cases, they came down from the generation above that. I know some of the items are quite valuable, but I'm damned if I want to sell, even though the money would be very useful. And when I lost my Dad, they meant even more to me because they came from him. It might seem silly, but, well, it's just how I feel. Heirlooms are heirlooms. Are you sure you want to let them go?

Indeed, its not like you'll be able to get them back...

Re: Anyone know anything about WWII medals/etc ?

We spoke about this sort of thing at Christmas actually. Most mean nothing to him, it's just a collection, I think a Burma Star & a couple of others were my grandads' but they wouldn't be sold anyway.
He has a large collection of badges too, nothing thats really personal so they mean even less to me (unfortunately) If hnaded down to me or my son they'd probably only get sold at some point so I told him to enjoy the money if he wants! They're not heirlooms (at least how I describe those) so basically I don't want him to give them to me/my son & then we sell them, he might as well do that if he wants to

As for checking other places, it's only a thought at the moment & I know we have some people on here who collect things you might not expect (BSODMike springs to mind) so though it was worth a punt

Yeah, if they mean little to him, then obviously they'd mean little to you. It was just a thought, and I should have known you'd already thought that through.

And sure, it's worth a punt. I know Mike is into watches, pens etc but I wasn't aware of any interest in this type of thing. Of course, he may well be and I just hadn't noticed. But like you say, it's worth a punt, for him or anyone else that might, and you never know, we may have a serious collector and it's just never come up before.
