I'm presuming it's a swarm of bees or wasps . The picture honestly aint that clear Shad. It is not so likely to be wild bees in Britian these days because of the Varoa mite problem so it probably either wasps or a swarmed hive of domestic bees
I have some experience with bees and the last thing you want to do is to fire catapults at them especcially if they are close to your house. This will in all likely hood drive them mad and a lot of them will start buzzing around the general vicinity looking for someone to sting
Bees, nor wasps, generally dont set up in an open tree so they are probably just waiting while their scouts check out a suitable place. The problem is that they may decide that your roof or garden shed is a suitable place and move in .
Your best bet if in a city is to call pest control or if in the country to call a local beekeeper they are often happy enough to deal with bees for a reasonable tip. Unless you have the proper equipment and experience i wouldnt go near them.
