Totally awesome find in a charity shop

Was in Barnados this morning with my wife and son (she was trying on a nice summer dress) ME and little one ended up in the toy section and came across a lego technic 2 in 1 front loader Argos sells it for £75 normally and £57 at the minute.

It was priced at £15 as seen so i asked the guy and he said they had checked the box and all the bigt bits wheel/scoop were in there but beyond that they had no idea. So i took a punt on it being that its Easter and all and if it was missing a few bits then maybe we could mod it from his big box of lego.

Anyway 2 hours and too many hands later we have this

As you can imagine my 6 year old was well pleased with it no missing bits at all and a few spares too.

So i was wondering what great finds have you guys/ girls have had from a charity shop.

Had to buy another suit last minute the other year, so £9 later found myself with a perfect fitting Odermark in immaculate condition.

    Charity shops rock.

Find a wealthy area... go into them in that town... for the win.

I don't think I've ever got any great bargains, but I used to have that set - I remember seeing it in Toys R Us and having it bought for me for Christmas... took pride of place on my window sill for many years

Mint and fully boxed Mk1 Sega Master System for a fiver...had just been dropped off, but the girl behind the till explained i couldn't buy it as they were not allowed to sell electricals. Had a word with the manageress, agreed not to sue them if i blew myself up...even went back and got a few more consoles as they put them to one side for me in exchange for a donation...

I didn't actually know that until this Thursday, when some jabba the hut impersonator waddled out of the charity shop next to my office whining about it.

Re: Totally awesome find in a charity shop

I got an N64 with two controllers and a Memory Pak for either 10 or 15 quid from Oxfam a couple of years ago - I forget exactly. Memory Paks were going for 18 quid on Ebay at the time, anyway.

TBH though, the coolest stuff I've had from Charity shops I haven't bought- I've raided it out of their bins. Properly loud disco sounds in my back room at my last house were provided by a Pioneer amp I got from BHF's bin. Books, pint glasses, clothes- I've had the lot for free.

Re: Totally awesome find in a charity shop

My best charity shop buy? A huge haul of my Mum's Hornsea pottery tea set that hadn't been in production for over 20 years. Worked out at around £1 a piece - absolute bargain and 8 million good son points for that birthday present

Otherwise, I think about half of my tech book collection has come from charity shops: I don't think I've paid much more than a fiver for any of them - and most of them I've handed over a lot more than the shop was asking for even then!

    Nice find!
    Lego is AMAZINGLY expensive now.
My daughters and nephews still play with mine (30+ years old now...the lego, not my daughters and nephews), and its a timeless thing for kids.

    Anyone remember Play People aswell.........
