Re: New laptop time! After a decent peformer

Sorry to piggyback on this thread, but there's no point me making an identical one. I'm really on the fence and need a push one way or the other.

The Dell website has the following:

    Inspiron 15R
    i3 380M 2.53GHz
    4GB RAM
    500GB HDD
    5650 gpu

For £479 delivered, but the delivery time is the 20th of June.

    Ebuyer have the following:

    Inspiron 15R
    i3 370M 2.4GHz
    3GB RAM
    320GB
    5650 gpu

For about £498 delivered on Tuesday the 7th.

I'm going to New Zealand on Thursday the 9th and if I can't get the laptop before then, I don't think I'll bother at all. I doubt the Ebuyer one would make much difference to gaming, but do I want to spend more to get less? I haven't seen any others under £500 with a half decent dedicated gpu. The choice is basically Ebuyer or nothing.

Does anyone know if the 15R has two hard drive slots? That would negate the smaller hard drive, and RAM isn't too bad to upgrade if needed.

How about that? 4GB ddr3, 3d screen (pretty irrelevant) and faster graphics (marginally).

Make it as you will. Oddly enough it took me the same amount of time, or maybe even less to get a customised XPS as it took the netbook from Dell Outlet (which should've been in stock).

Bought that one. Got it on Tuesday. It seems to play most of the games I want at acceptable framerates with low-medium settings. The power brick is a bit too big to keep in my backpack, although that's coming from a netbook with a brick smaller than a phone. Sounds like SOL aren't too good with returns, so hopefully it won't break.

I tried Tomb Raider Legend in 3D and it was running at 20-30fps, which is just about playable. Meh. At least it wasn't a selling point for me. I think it gets 40-60fps without 3D.
