About LinkBacksIf I send a seller an email asking him to end an auction early, and he accepts....how do I pay him but still receive the full ebay/paypal protection? I would obviously go through Paypal.

IIRC it's against the eBay terms of service (because they don't get the 'buy it now' fees) so you don't get eBay protection.
You get standard PayPal protection if you use PayPal, but none if you send it as a PayPal gift.
The best you can do is ask if he has a 'buy it now' price in mind and if so, would he listed it as that. You'll get protection that way.
Asking him to sell outside of Ebay is against the TOS on both sides. You can get banned for it.
