One thing i did notice from doing the epson work was that thoese who used cheap ink would end up back for another replacement where has the ones who used epson ink would not come back for the same prob.

Another vote for Hp, i have 2 (960c &lj 1010), even after my dad bust the lj cuz he put a poly pocket through it as he didn't have any acentate left and it melted onto the rollers, they took it back and repaired it under warrenty.
I find HPs very good. Have a 940c and a 3820 and both have never given any trouble. They are not really cheap to run but they work well so i'm not complaining.
Print qualityon the HPs is very good, way better than the Epson C62 i have to contend with in college Grrrrrr.
Arrgghhh!! I SO know what you are talking about!!
My Epson currently refuses to print using Magenta - All the cartridges are new, I have cleaned the heads numerous times but its having none of it!!
Total Sympathy from me mate!!
If you're not living on the edge, you take up too much room
Used to have a lexmark printer - starting printing stripey, even with new cartridges.
Now have a canon - Much better!
There's a thin person in every fat person.....that's because they just ate them.
Had a Epson Stylus 740 for about 5-6 years, never had a problem with it, just used the cheapy £2/3 a throw cartridges for pretty much its whole life and has probably done around 1/2 million pages..... IMHO you cant beat them for running costs
I'm still running an HP Deskjet 600 which I've had from new!
One of the arms on the out tray is broken and the paper feed wheel is starting to lose its grip, but other than a few dry inkheads I've never had any trouble with it.
Tried out a USB Epson photo printer with built in card reader that my mum lent me and it was utter rubbish...
Needless to say, my next printer will be either HP or Cannon... something that'll print photos would do me nicely.
I have a epson 880, not to bad IMO, i run it on cheap ink (http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/) and i have very little problems, sometimes i get a blocked jet, but, seeing as i never got that well i used there ink, i put it down to the cheap ink (about £1.50 for black, £2 for colour) so, if i use 1/2 a cartrage on head cleaning, thats only like £1/2
- only think i would like is a option on just cleaning one set of head (ie, just the yellow)
Yeah - Overall Ive been impressed with Epsons from what I've seen but the no empties cartrage thing is really annoying. Ive never owned an Epson, I was going to buy one but ended up going for a HP instead - I've been impressed and although the cartrages look absolutely tiny, they last loads longer than my old Lex cartrages ever did which are easily twice the size.

Epsons aren't too bad if you continuously use them, it's when they're sat around for a while that they go all screwy. They were much more useable back in the days before knowing how much ink they had though.
What made me laugh when I worked at Currys/Staples was always the Lexmark offers... I once got a printer for £7 with 1/2 filled cartridges that the refills were £25 for! Genius!
HP/Canon ftw. Don't scrimp on the cost of the printer straight off and you'll generally be doing yourself a favour in the long run.
