ill health - they say the cancer has come back.
Quite a lot of coverage on Radio 4 this morning.
On a personal level, I hope it isn't a return of cancer, as the co-founder of Apple he has been a pretty influential character in the development of the PC.
Last time he resigned from Apple, the company went into decline, which was only reversed when he came back.
But if his successor (Tim Cook) has (as the reorts say) has been effectively running the company, then the transition may not have such an impact.
Jobs has been a risk taker, the Iphone was a new venture for the company, and so was tablet computing, and not even the most vociferous Apple critic can deny their commercial success. Will his successor be as innovative? What next? I suppose much will depend on how the investors react, but I am sure they were consulted well in advance.

I bet he typed out that he reigns as CEO of Apple but his iPhone autocorrected it to resigns

The market was `wobbly` when news he was ill again previously - and yes no matter what your thoughts on apple`s `pitbull` tactics - from a personal level i hope for the best for him , but in the back of my mind sadly im fearing the worst, he did look very gaunt and `grey` the last time he was seen.
edit:
apple shares have allready dropped 5%

Who cares if shares have dropped? The guy is seriously ill. I hope he gets well.

because to some apple = steve jobs and now he`s leaving , to hopefully a less stressful time , or rather hopefully the best medical care he can get , the market speculators are wobbly.
You do know he is a complete runt right?
Its about one in three people who contract cancer, and if you read a bio on him you'll see that he was anything but a nice person to his family, hell even his very young daughter.
As such there are much better people in this world to be hoping to get better.

hope is bollocks anyway, so what does it matter who it gets aimed at.
Steven "Steve" Jobs making the rest look like amateurs

I lost my Dad a couple years ago, and understand first hand how devastating loss can be. I hope he and his family get to spend more time together.
Still haven't got my compliance approval to spreadbet the bejesus outta them!

It's interesting, it was only Tuesday I was having a discussion with my better (and more intelligent) half about whether it was acceptable for one person tpo be critical to the success of a company (her arguing that it was bad for one person to have that much influence, me trying (badly!) to make a case the other way) and we both said it would be very interesting to see what happened when Jobs did finally leave Apple, and whether the company would be able to thrive without his vision and personality.
Have to say I didn't think I'd get a chance to see quite so quickly, though...
stupid compliance had over 4 hours to give me approval but noooooo......
My limits would have been hit and deal done within 13 min of trading, leaving me seriously ****ed off as I'm now opportunity lost a few grand
It would have almost made up for the iPad!

I'm no fan of Apple's business model or practises, but anyone who wishes cancer on even their worst enemy is... Something I'd better not say. XKCD says it best when it comes to the big C.
Splash, I don't think anyone here is wishing cancer on anyone else, don't be a melodramatic pleb.
The long and the short of it is that Steve, despite being a cancer sufferer is someone I find difficult to respect. He believes it is ethical to go on a patent trolling spree against companies that have helped Apple on their way to where they are now, and believes that his opinion on what people can and cant access through their own device should reflect the users of such devices..... If I want to watch porn on an iPhone, who is he to tell me I shouldn't?
Some of the absolute dross he's come out with in his open letters, biographies and occasional blogs is indication of his absolute need to be a control freak.
What people don't appear to be quite understanding is that although Mr Jobs is stepping down from the CEO position, he has made himself Chairman of the Board of directors and so is still going to be an incredibly influential apple employee, and will have a firm puppet hand behind Tim Cook.
I'll happily concede Apple have heated up the technology race in recent years, but their behaviour as a corporation that tries to make out that they are ethical, sweet and nice is absolutely inexcusable in my opinion, which is why I will personally never own an apple product.
