    The Gender Gap

    So, just a thought but.

If the government say that men need 2500 calories a day and women 2000. Then i would say this very roughly equates to about £3 a day. thats about £1100 a year.

So why should women get equal wages based on this? I ask this question to my feminist sister and mother, they have failed to come up with any valid counter argument.

There are 1000+ calories in a pack of digestive biscuits, and that cost about 50p last time I bought one.

    Re: The Gender Gap

And if we are equally or even MORE capable of doing the job, why should we be paid less just because we are female.

Last time I checked, we were also the child bearing half of the species, which equates to quite a lot of salary loss over a lifetime, so therefore we should be paid more to make up for the fact that we are taking time out of our earning lives to keep the race alive.

If you're saying that men should be paid more because they are bigger / eat more, then they should pay more for airfares etc where weight is a contributing factor to fares.

Swings and roundabouts but why shouldn't I be paid the same amount as one of my colleagues when I am at the same or even higher level as them.

So women are more efficient than men (same job, fewer calories) - perhaps they should be paid more?

No they don't need to be, because their efficency will mean whilst they get paid based on what they provide, their costs are less. As such they would be more efficent, I say would because they then go and spend it all on frocks and such.

Note - this post is not entirely serious, and should not be taken to be so!

So in a "normal" job its clear that equal pay is right. What about benefits? By this whole calorie/need logic, women should be paid less in their state "survival" benefits than men. Or rather people should be paid based on what they need to live.

Thats assuming that benefits are a payment of strictly what people need, which as we know is not the case at all

on a slightly more serious note it would be an interesting way to do things in the distant future when we finally stop paying benefits as cash - rather than giving people £X of food vouchers as a blanket measure, each person is regularly screened and given a set of food vouchers (or equivalent, but basically not cash that can be spent on fags etc) that lets them buy enough food to survive and maintain a healthy weight. That would be "fair"

This thread is definitely trollbait though...;D You just *know* that someone is gonna come along and take it seriously...

Nah vouchers have already been demonstrated to be flawed in the US, a black market appears trading them!

Maybe we should just send them to work at the soylent green factory.....

I would be happy to be weighed in before getting on a plane

i thought children were optional. And if the woman chose a decent partner the cost of pregnancy is usually shared. As for multitasking yes women are the daddy, although i also read this is hearsay and folklore , but personally i do believe they are better but the flip side is men as better at spacial tasks.

I guess people should be payed or at least partially payed based on ability. But if this is applied to physical work men on average can do more, faster, due to the physical differences. But as a result they burn more calories.

It was more tongue in cheek, and just pointing out that it cost's more for a man to sustain life that it does for a woman.
