    UV jellymonkey cat

    sorry for the mirror link

    quote from http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/09/12/best_cat_ever/
To create the luminous FIV-proof cats, the unfertilised eggs of a cat were injected with DNA proteins from a rheus macaque monkey and glow-in-the-dark jellyfish genes. The two pieces of genetic material were joined together so that the fluorescent jellyfish protein could be used to track their take-up by the cat

EDIT : make sure to read CAT-THE-FIFTHs post too - its the one below. he adds more links, even found the original article which i missed in my sleep depraved state

    Re: UV jellymonkey cat

Why don't they just quote the original article?? Proteins and genes are not interchangeable!!

They inserted the sequence for the following fluorescent protein:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_fluorescent_protein

    Here is the original article:

    http://www.mayoclinic.org/news2011-rst/6434.html

"Succeeding with it for the first time in a carnivore, the team inserted a gene for a rhesus macaque restriction factor known to block cell infection by FIV, as well as a jellyfish gene for tracking purposes."

AFAIK, the two genes are co-expressed,so if the Cat glows green there is a good chance the gene expressing rhesus macaque restriction factor has been inserted properly too.
