Unauthorised Microsoft Luxembourg S.a.r.l. paypal charge

I've just received two email notifications from paypal saying acknowledging payment of 180 DK (x2) to Microsoft Luxembourg S.a.r.l.

    I've already opened a dispute!

I've never ever ordered anything from Microsoft online directly.

It looks like this double transaction was "ok" as I had a "billing agreement" with MS Lux. WTF? I've never had a billing agreement with anyone on Paypal AFAIK, or rather this "billing agreement" was set up at the time of the first 180DK transaction. I've since been in and cancelled this billing agreement (which I never agreed to in the first place!)

I guess this is the MS we all know and love/hate, and not some bogus impersonating business. Doing a quick search on the net points to many xbox posts, so for those of you who have an xbox, can you pay for your MS xbox live subscription this way? Does 2x 180DK (= 2x £21) equate to a typical transaction?

It's my first time I'm appealing paypal. Looking at the info available, there's no real description to what the charges are for. Looking at the resolution centre, it's now awaiting the other party's response.

Rather than subscription, since it would be strange to get that twice in a row, its more likely someone buying Points, probably about 2000 I think.

I dont use Live, so I can only base that on the price of the points cards that stores sell, and even then its still only a guess.

Thanks Bob. I wonder though whether it's malicious in someone else finding my email address and managing to get their purchase billed to my account or maybe just an administrative "glitch".

Thanks, but I don't have an xbox nor a live account, so really can't see how anything hacked could be linked to my email address I have associated with paypal.

As posted earlier, I've already started the dispute, and will post the findings

Re: Unauthorised Microsoft Luxembourg S.a.r.l. paypal charge

I was wondering about that too! But maybe it is genuine in that the registered address is Luxembourg, but the transaction was done in Denmark.

Just had an email, and paypal have now reversed the charges so my account will be refunded.

Re: Unauthorised Microsoft Luxembourg S.a.r.l. paypal charge

Slight sting in the tail: although I've received a refund, the amount refunded on my credit card in GBP amounts to £2.72 less than what was taken. It looks like this is due to exchange rate fluctuations by 5% (probably a difference between buy/sell or something).

I've requested Paypal refund me this, we'll see what happens. I'm not holding my breath as surely they'll say it's not their problem, but it matters a hell of a lot more to me than it will to them, considering it was a fraudulent transaction, I don't see why I should have to pay for exchange rate losses.

If the fluctuation had been the other way, and the credit back to your card was £2.72 more than the original debit, would you have offered to repay the difference to paypal?

    Just a thought

    Contact your credit card firm.

What they have done is illegal and puts you at a disadvantage.

If your subject to fruad on your card, you have no liability for the FX exposure.

Perhaps a better question would be "would he object to not getting it?"

Were it me, I might not offer, but I'd expect PayPAL to not overpay in the first place, or reverse it if they did.

I agree with TA, you get back what what you lost. You can expect no more but sure should expect no loss.

True enough, I guess. Since this was an unauthorised payment they should be making good the actual loss. I suppose I was thinking in terms of refunds of authorised payments, where there could be a question over which currency you were contracting in. But no, in this situation they should definitely be refunding the extra...

I probably would offer a refund it it went the other way.

I might also contact the credit card co in case they can offer anything. After all, they are the originators of the loss on refund.

From memory MS lux is the arm that deals with purchases from http://emea.microsoftstore.com/UK/en-GB

So £14.99 is probably xbox live or similar

(I bought an old arcade from them many moons ago when it was £60 instead of £160, they honoured it )
