    Paypal and Ebay Ripoff

Hello, can I seek some of your advice on this matter.

Anyway, at the beginning of January I sold a Nokia 6230i Phone on Ebay for £90 including postage. He had low feedback at the time but the money seemed to be clean and so I sent the phone off, he paid through Paypal and everything seemed ok.

2 weeks ago, 3 months after sending the phone off and him leaving me positive feedback, I receive an email from Paypal saying that he has initiated a chargeback against me. I responded quoting that I had pictures and that he had left feedback.

Now I get back home today and I receive another email saying:

We recently notified you that one of your buyers filed a chargeback stating
unauthorised use of a credit card.

It is PayPal's standard practice to dispute wrongful chargebacks. Using the
information you provided, we are in the process of disputing this
chargeback with the buyer's card issuer.
Because the card issuer has reversed this charge, PayPal is temporarily
holding an amount equal to the disputed funds until this matter is
resolved. If the chargeback is resolved in your favour, the funds will
    remain in your account.
The credit card company has charged PayPal a settlement fee for this
chargeback. In accordance with the terms of the PayPal User Agreement, we
have debited your PayPal account to cover this fee.
And the stupid thing is, that my card is now in debt by £103, another £20 from what I originally received.

I believe this to be an absolute joke, here is a picture, he sent it in a £85 payment, and another £5 payment for postage.

Is there anything else that I can do? Can I remove my card from my Paypal account so that they cannot take any money away from me? Is this illegal.

I cannot see where I have done anything wrong here, but I seem to be getting conned left, right and center.

If anyone has any sort of information to help me out, it would be much appreciated.

i'd try and get a pod firstly, to show paypal who signed for it. I believe you can prevent paypal taking money out of your account by telling the bank whats going on and getting them to cancel and then issue you with either a new dd or cc.
Perhaps you should remove the buyers email address from the details lol

Sadly, I think I've thrown that bloody note out! I'm not removing that Bastard's email address, he deserves to die.

    Anyone else any ideas?

I had a similar situation a couple of years back. I sold a USR Wireless Router on ebay, buyer got it OK & left positive feedback. Then she decides a couple of months down the line to do a chargeback saying she didn't authorise it on her CC!

So paypal take the money off me & the settlement fee. In the end I get the money back for the router ie found in my favour but the ******s never refunded their settlement fee.

So in my experience there was nothing I could do about it - I complained but it didn't get me anywhere.

If you sent the item signed for then you may have the reference number in your browser cache if you checked for delivery status on line.

Bottom line is Paypal is full of people cheating the system as unless you have proof of delivery Paypal will always side with the buyer. Doesn't matter what other proof you have, even an email from the person saying they got the goods is not proof enough according to Paypal.

Also have you contacted the buyer asking what's going on, wait for the reply and say you'll be handing the matter over to the police if you have proof that they got the item, might be enough to scare them into fessing up.

This is the kind of reason I never use paypal (or ebay anymore for that matter). I think the best thing to do would probably be to contact your bank, let them know that you never agreed to paypal taking that money.

@Alistair: Where about in West Lothian you from?

The buyer may be fraudulent but Paypal taking more out of your account than the original purchase is most certainly not a good way to run a business.

I'm sure there would be a lot of media types who would love to run this story about the risks of using Paypal...
