As title really, just wondering if there are any hams here @ Hexus? Was keen to get into the hobby myself a few years back but there were no clubs (that I could find) nearby. I have recently regained interest and I'm hoping to get off to a better start this time!
I keep pondering doing the foundtion license. I use a scanner for listening in to various transmissions, but a chat with some raynet members got me interested in transmitting. Think somebody mentioned being a ham the other day, can't remember who.
There's someone in my area that does a lot of talking on some kind of wavelength.
It absolutely freaked me out a week or so after buying my new speakers, if I turn the volume all the way down while he's transmitting it picks up his signal and I can hear him pretty clearly. Can't hear the other side of the conversation though.
Used to be, but let my license lapse. Was cool to build your own kit - I was too young to be building computers at the time, but an 80m radio was just right. My uncle invented some of the data protocols so he got us into it.
My old man is a ham radio enthuiast, although he has a full licence and did the proper exams etc in the 80's.
He's got one hell of a radio, it's worth the price of a very high end gaming PC.
Don't suppose anyone knows of any clubs in or around Liverpool?
