i'd prefer to mourn all those who "disappeared" in central america on account of this lunatic, and all his fellow actors who's lives were destroyed by his accusations of communism during the mccarthy years, just so his competition was eliminated, and spare a thought for those of us who lived through the entire 80's in fear of nuclear war on account of him

true enough, although iirc cold war was ending anyway because the russian economy was collapsing and many of the eastern bloc nations had younger, more forward thinking leaders than they'd had for a long time. bonzo was just in the right place
