So basically they are removing the option of websites duping people in to buying extras, neato!

Wonder how long it will take thou for the airline industry to stop charging a £2 surcharge, even when I'm using my airmiles reward card which has the name of the ****king airline on the card.

There wasnt really need to highlight Scansure in the title as many places online have something like this now with boxes automatically ticked.

Would you mind setting it to "pre-ticked boxes in shopping carts" or something that helps it make sense..... I mean your still allowed to have a checkbox/combo which is set....

Well Scansure was the first thing I though of when I read the amended subject.

Sounds good to me, just a shame it will take so long for member nations to enact it.

Banks and credit companies are equally as bad with this putting insurance on for example, automatically ticking the boxes to add insurance

I just removed Scan, albeit a decent example as most here use them and can familiarise with the example, however there are other companies that do things like this and a little unfair to have just Scan as a highlight. First one that comes to mind with me is PC World, when you buy something hardware related online they automatically tick Geek Squad Tech Support and its in your basket, Carphone Warehouse do the same thing also when purchasing a phone or laptop deal.

More just a case of what was it that got redacted, its a change which Scan will have to make, which from what I've seen round here, will be the first example that comes to mind (as it did to mine, funkstars), I thought it had been construed as too negative.

Thing is I think its fair to say almost all of the peeps on here will be in favor of Scan been forced to change their practices in this regard.

Don't miss the bit that said "Member countries will have two years to implement the rules nationally."

This is an EU ruling but, like things like the Distance Selling Regs, it takes time to become national law.

So for the time being at least, continue to keep your eyes wide open for companies that like auto-adding things to our basket whether we like it or not.

I quite agree, it's bloody annoying and they've ignored opinion to their detriment. Scan was a perfectly valid (and relevant to hexus) example. Interesting..

Agree with oolon, they could screw this up and allow double negative opt-outs.

It is good that there is at-least some awareness of these underhanded practises.
