Well unless I completely misunderstood what I read, they were excused "because they weren't used to alcohol, due to their religion."

You knew exactly what story I was on about though.

Well, the lack of perceived consequence played a huge part too.

I know if enough incidents where ... Let's call a spade a spade... Scrotes come into places, are thoroughly abusive and know full well and threaten anyone so much as looking at them funny with an assault charge.

    This example merely underscores that.

Re: There's always a bigger man...

Things like this make me sad to live in the Uk.

Nothing more to say really other than yes the 'big guy' went overboard but I believe he done the right thing in the main.

Him getting punished and that teen to get compensation is what makes me sad to be a part of the uk.

I don't like the path our society is on and I mean that with all the seriousness I can muster.

He might have been allegedly drunk, but I have little doubt that his behaviour was abusive.

I think the boy received his just desert but I also think that it should ideally not be members of the public dishing it out. What is the fine / punishment for someone without a valid ticket? Had the authorities been informed and he is formally escorted off the train, what would happen next?

I can't help be wonder if the present punishment has insufficient repercussions.

The penalty is £20 or twice the full single fare from the station where the passenger got on the train to the next station at which the train stops, whichever is the greater.
If the passenger wants to travel beyond the next station, they must also pay the relevant fare from that station to their final destination.
Hardly seems like a suitable fine to me..

I can't be the only one who operates under the assumption that if I'm loud, abusive and a general **** I'd get a a (fully deserved) smack in the mouth in a great many places.

At what point did we accept that [certain|most(?)] actions have no consequences? Am I that old?

Hang on, he picked up a bloke who had initiated no violence (beyond a bit of verbal) against anyone and threw him bodily from a train. If you can't see why that's a bit different from defending yourself, or getting involved to protect someone else, then you're really suffering reality failure I'm afraid.

This, right here, is why there were riots.
Right, so the kid didn't get off the train because he was too busy organising a riot via BBM?

Re: There's always a bigger man...

Lack of consequence Rave, lack of consequence.

You did it in a bar, you'd be out on your arse and I very much doubt anyone would say jack about it.

Edit: And I had thought the lack of consequence was a well known and obvious part of the riots (the masked chimp on the news saying "ill only get community service innit" and the shock at the terms handed down were quite telling). Do you think if they expected to be shot on sight as looters they'd have done it? Of course not, lack of consequences.

We, as a society have decided that you can only offer stern words to someone, direct action is very NOT ALLOWED. Sadly, however, direct action is often the only route to take.

Yup thats the story, thing is it was the lawyer that said it was down to the religion, so, who exactly was taking the piss, the lawyer or the group of girls, now, I'm not religious in any way but if I were I would take offence to someone using my "faith" as an excuse for my own actions.

Chances are while they were muslim on paper that they are/were very weak flimsy followers of the muslim faith and use it in a way that an increasing number of young muslims do these days, as a race card. People go on about the hardline muslims misreading the direction of the Quoran (sp) but at least they have read it, its not just the hardliners that "ruin it for everyone else" its also the above types that use it as an excuse or a tool to get what, or get away with, what they want..

I'm 35, and as I get older I find my tollerance towrds, for want of a better description, "social retards" is getting less and less, there seems to be a massive increase in the last 10/15 years of people that want something for nothing and think they they are as entitled to it as they are the air they breathe it annoys me, not only do they want something for nothing but they also seem to find excuses for their misbehaviour when they act out and dont get it, be it colour, religion, medical reasons etc.

There should be a rule that, in cases like this what ever happens to "big man" cannot exceed more than 1/3 what happens to said "social retard", "big man" gets a £100 fine, "social retard" should get £300, this, imho, would send a message to the "big man" that what he did, while "the right thing" was not his job nor responcibility and that "social retard" comes off worse, and also things like this should also be exempt from the "I'll pay it back a quid a week lol" rule that seems to exist..

Re: There's always a bigger man...

Its things like this that will see our society drop to a level where we will see a girl hit by a truck and leave her there to die as we would be afraid of the consequences of intervening.

Yes I'm referring to China. Chinese people are afraid of lawsuits which is one of the reasons that they did not help that baby girl. Or so the media says.

Im sure there is more to it than that but if we as a society cannot do anything for fear of lawsuits etc even though IT IS the right thing then we are in a downward spiral.

If that's all there is to it, then it is "worth it" if you only get caught less than half the time. A calculated risk. The minimum is also much less than London Underground's £50. We probably do not have the space to lock them up even for a week-end. That's why I am advocating canning as a form of punishment.
