Question about car rental

Ok, i'm aware that you cant rent a car unless you're over 25 (21 for some companies) but, is it possible that someone of that age rents the car, can a younger driver (say 20) be put on as a second driver if they have a full clean driving licence?

I've tried looking on car rental sites but it doesnt mention this anywhere. It gives the option to add a second driver but doesnt give any restrictions.

Ask the rental company you have in mind to fax you a copy of the rental agreement that people sign when hiring cars. If nothing is mentioned in the smallprints, then its perfectly legal.

i've had a read through the terms and conditions of the rental companies and none have given any restrictions...

You might also have to pay a surcharge if you are under 25. Sometimes can be as hih as £250.

Some companies don't even charge extra! I hire cars quite regularly and there is a place in Newcastle (I know, not much use to you elmo, but I'm sure there'll be somewhere in Glasgow!) called Jowetts that requires that you've had a licence for over 2 (maybe 3) years. Another one I go to is called A.M.Hire and they are part of a larger group of companies. They will hire to me, but I have to pay either 3 or 5 pounds per day extra because of my age. (Can't remember which it is!)
