    When you know your old...

Talking to the boy yesterday about things I used to do when I was a kid...
He doesn't know what a cap gun is and neither did the 15 year olds that were around..
Nobody knew of the old sugar and weedkiller trick..

Kids these days don't know what they are missing...

Nope, genuine. To be fair, I vaguely know what a cap gun is, but I've never seen one outside of a shop.

I thought this was going to be about how we are all falling apart at the seams.

I think the best one was my sisters young lad saying to me "what was the Sony playstation like when you was a kid"

I remember cap guns but, I don't have a clue about the sugar.

    Big badda BOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm

One old guy from my village managed to get himself and several mates locked up by making DIY explosives. Think they used fertilizer and diesel, but packed it into a full sized fire extinguisher. Strapped it to a tree in the local recreation grounds and literally blew it down.

Don't they put dampening stuff in it these days? Anyway, this isn't the sort of conversation you're allowed to have nowadays.

Re: When you know your old...

I miss chemistry sets more than anything, I think I was about the last generation allowed a remotely interesting one before H+S BS took over. Now 'chemistry sets' boast about having 'no chemicals' included. They helped spark my fascination with chemistry and science as a whole and kids today will miss out on all of that. Reading about it in a book or melting some ice in a beaker in yr11 isn't the same as making something change colour, or making hydrogen by yourself (or making someone's wee turn blue ) and then figuring out exactly why it happens.

Public ignorance + fear of the word 'chemical'...

And now, if you own anything which isn't a bottle of cleaning solution, you're immediately either making drugs or bombs. Sad. Very sad.

No, they banned the type of weed killer you'd use - you need sodium chlorate based weed killer which was withdrawn from sale in the EU in 2009.

You sound rather knowledgable on the subject there Butcher, just how many trees did you blow down?

Re: When you know your old...

Used to have a Luger cap gun that used a roll of red paper caps and fed them through the back of the gun where the hammer was, use to snarl up something awful, so it was more fun to lay out the strip on the ground, pull a sharp stone along it and try not to set fire to your school uniform, happy days

There was another type too, kinda little plastic caps with the same stuff in them that was in the red strips, but they were only 1 shot or 6 shots (If in a circular, revolver type gun) and kinda crap compared to that lethal paper stuff.
