True: I'd quite like to see the open fields and hills, where old Kung-Fu masters, with white beards, jump great trees in a single bound, whilst his black-suited pupil, fights off 25 attackers at the same time, with his karate stick, as well!

And I'd like to go to Tokyo, but I've hear its dangerous, what with Godzilla roaming about the place!

    Japan!

I haven't done much travelling in my life, but I would love to go to Australia/New Zealand, and the States.

I'm off to South Africa in February for two weeks, which should be good! Booked the tickets last night! Such a lovely country, definately a worthwhile trip!

    LA - leave.
NZ - would have to ask my friend whose house looks back onto the area where they filmed the LOTR Helm's Deep etc.

Would love to go to NZ, Japan, China (actually, maybe trek for a while through some of eastern asia); would love to trek across Africa; Canada, a few tropical islands might be nice, in the caribbean for the history. What I'd really love to do is be part of the crew for a long sailing voyage on a tall-ship. Have to love the Age of Sail!

Head straight over to Santa Monica and find a place to stay. Right next to the beach...The Lowes is great, but pricey, although there's a lot of cheaper alternatives around...

After you've seen the Pier, you can head up to Malibu or down to Venice (hiring bikes or rollerblades and crusing down the boardwalk is a great way to spend a day). There's also 3rd Street Promenade, which is nice during the day and lovely after sundown, some nice places to eat, stores, and street performers. Just round the corner is the Santa Monicas Famers Market on Main Street, which is on every Sunday. Look out for the Apple Pie stall...does the best Apple & Peach Crumble every...

Hire a car. It's cheap, and LA is possibly the easiest place in the world to drive in (they don't have roundabouts 'cause American's can't deal with them, but they're alright with straight lines and intersections.)

Got to see the Hollywood sign, which is also up in the hills where the Griffith observatory is (the final scene from RocketMan was shot there), and it's through a nice park if you like that kind of thing.

Hollywood Boulevard is okay for pics, with all the stars on the ground and the handprints, plus there's Mann's Chinese Theatre nearby.

The Getty Museum is a fantastic place (again, has to be your cup of tea). The architecture is great, as are the exhibits, and the views are spectacular, as long as the smog isn't too bad.

Universal studios is well worth a visit. Make sure you go on the tour...and don't forget to spend some time on the Universal City Walk, the retail strip just outside, loads of great souvineers.

Disneyland is just down the road, and fantastic as always. There's actually two parks there now, Disneyland and California Adventure, they're both okay, but IMO they should have been one park instead of making people pay for two.

If you're a pub and club man, Sunset is the place to be. Watch out for the American Wild West Theme place, it has a rodeo machine thing in there, where lots of pissed american ladies like to ride....good viewing material while sipping a (gassy) beer.

Shopping (most people, this is window shopping) there's Rodeo Drive (Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Tiffanys, Prada etc. etc.) and Beverly Center which is an upmarket mall. Melrose is also pretty nice...it's all very pretty, tree lined streets and nice cafes.

Anyways, that's about all I can think of for the moment. If anything else springs to mind I'll let you know....enjoy. Wish I was going back...

Acid ... so they're your favourite places that you've not yet visited? How about some favourite places you have?
Dunno, to be honest if I was to live anywhere for any long period of time, it would be in Edinburgh, the lifestyle, surroundings and people are well suited to me, but Ive been yearning to leave for a while because it's getting a bit small for me.

Ive lived in HK for a while, it's really not my thing to be living in a city with loadsa people . . . plus I have issues with how some people conduct themselves, the mentality is totally different. Most of my family are based there, so I go back every now and again, I like it more since it's changed hands to be honest, it's been cleaned up quite a bit, and it is kinda like my 2nd home, but I never miss it anymore like I used to.

Other places Ive been to: China, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia . . . on the continent, Ive been to Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia (probably one of my favourite places), Bosnia, Czech Rupublic, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands . . .

Like I say, given the chance, Id go anywhere I can - it's just the destinations Ive mentioned before are somewhat crying to me. . . I believe I can probably get alot out of those places having met a lot of people from them, and from just pictures and reading, they're fascinating to me.

somebody took the hint...Another rep point. Yay...(how pointless my existance is...)

Acid ... I'll agree with you on the Edinburgh point. It used to be my favourite city, until I realised how windy is was up there, and how freakin' cold it got over wintertime...

My parents lived out in Hong Kong for a while too, and I don't think that I could ever spend that much time there. It's just a nutty place sometimes, and there's no sense of personal space...just too crowded...

On a side note, man you get around.

Another vote for Japan here.. Despite spending 4 years there, I still want to go back. Despite being too hot in the summer, I still wanna live there. Beautiful, wonderful, mental country.

Oh and I wanna go to Hong Kong again (many bargains, much cheapness).

To me, thats the charm of the place I guess. The weather doesnt bother me that much, and I know alot of people would stay here if it werent for the weather. True, it can be ghastly, but then I just think it's just as well Im not in Canada during Winter. . .

And when Im away somewhere else and it rains, it only reminds me of home

Of the places that I HAVE been, my 3 favourites are:
North Yorkshire Dales (Swaledale), beautiful, whatever time of year, my favourie UK place of all

Catalunya area of Spain, fabulous food and amongst other things, amazing Medieval villages

....and the Maldives, clear blue sea, white sand, amazing fish, turtles, stingrays etc, and nothing to do but relax!

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.
