I voted yes.... its a disgusting habit. People aren't allowed to walk around shops drinking can's of lager so why should they be allowed to smoke!!!

As far as shops go, I agree with you, and I think that pubs/restaurants etc should have well ventilated designated non-smoking areas. I think however that banning smoking in all public areas is overkill.

they do it in america and no-one seems to worry. So why cant it work here in the UK. Surely people can go for a few hours without having a smoke while they are away from there home

They wouldn't do it here. The government like the tax they make on them.

    Shops = ban.
Open public space = no ban.

Im a smoker & I don't smoke in shops (can't think of one shop you can smoke in these days). It's banned in most shopping centres, malls and cafe's contained within anyway

yer thats what i was meaning... shopping centres. Our local town has a shopping centre. A ban on smoking was introduced last year but only the top floor. Well whats the point in that? most of the people are on the bottom floor and the smoke drifts upstairs!

Soon i'd imagine they will introduce it for the bottom floor too

I don't think it could be banned in public outdoor spaces but it should definately be banned in restaurants and shopping centres. Smoking "areas" in restaurants just don't work unless they are in completely separate rooms.

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

why couldn't it be banned in open places? my nose has also been bleeding today as I've got bad sinuses and I'm convinced it's because of the smoke last night

Smoking SHOULD be banned in all public buildings - Shops, Pubs, Clubs etc.

    But not outside.....

Surely shops, pubs, clubs, resturants etc are private places and the introduction there should be at the owners discression ?

They made my local pub no smoking once, it lasted for 2 days. When they noticed their profits drop through the floor they quickly lifted the ban and introduced a no smoking area.

As for public areas, is this not a free country ? Am I not free to do as I wish ?

The other thing that makes me laugh is that the government relaxes its policing on cannabis and (as has been stated) rely heavily on the taxation of tabbaco. Surely the idea of banning smoking in publc will just durectly their income and their ability to police the usage of drugs ?!

i agree ban. any lost of revenue from smoking will be balanced by the reduction in nhs funding needed to treat smoking related illnesses

You sure you didn't get into a punch up to have that bleeding nose

    Well I'm a smoker

I hate people smoking in restaurants and although I do smoke in pubs , I do think they should have decent air filtration / extractor system in a designated area for us weed puffers

Put it this way I don't even smoke in my own house because we have a 12 year old son and a 4 month old baby boy and that would just be too irresponsible of me to smoke in front of them.

As for public places I suppose the parks ok but not in a shopping mall.

I'm looking forward to trying out that pill that blocks the Nicotine getting into the brain as I know that's the only way I'll give up as I'm too bloody addicted / weak to give up.
Tried everything on the market but have a beer and it all goes to pot

Mmm beer another addicttion, but I ain't giving that up

i agree that shops, pub and clubs are not public places ! personally i'd prefer it if they were all smoke free but as you say i think it is their individual owners who have the right to make that descision !
